Conagra Controls Engineer/Manager in Troy, Ohio

The Controls Engineer/Manager role at Conagra is responsible for the day to day troubleshooting and preventative care of the facilities electrical and mechanical equipment and devices. The individual will design and manage projects, upgrade electrical systems and controls and lead training in the electrical department. This position is onsite in Troy, Ohio, and reports to the Engineering Director. Enhanced reliability is achieved through on time completion, and strict adherence to continuous improvement philosophies and methods. Brands made at our facility include Slim Jim, Dukes, and The Max Brand pizza products.

You will perform all work conforming to Conagra, state and local standards and codes. Your work will involve coordination with multiple partners (e.g., Corporate Engineering, Operations, Finance, EHS and RQI). External interaction will include equipment vendors, construction contractors, and engineering services contractors. Navigate and program all Allen Bradley Software Platforms (RS Logix 5, RS Logix 500, RS Logix 5000, Studio 5000, Factory Talk View ME).

  • Navigate PLC Networks (DH Plus/Ethernet).

  • Set IP Addressing.

  • Update firmware versions.

  • Program Allen Bradley and ABB Variable Frequency Drives, managed network switches (Stratix), Process Control Devices.

  • Improve the reliability and efficiency of production processes.

  • Train production technicians, maintenance technicians and peers.

  • Document training and train on all shifts.

  • Manage group of 11 electricians that work 2-12 hour shifts 7 days a week.

  • Parts research and ordering along with scheduling Emergency and scheduled work through SAP system.

  • Program control systems using appropriate system program language for proper sequences of operations and operating schedules.

  • Read and modify where necessary appropriate system blueprints and schematics.

  • Create hardware schedules for controls projects, renovations, and new construction projects.

  • Maintains appropriate logs and records of systems operations.

  • Performs other miscellaneous duties as needed.

  • Responsible for electrical department metrics.

  • Assists in managing and directing all activities for ConAgra Performance System Planned Maintenance Pillar.

  • Works with outside vendors and contractors to quote projects and work needed along with scheduling and oversight of repairs and projects.

  • Available for on-call after hours with weekend work when needed.

  • Ability to lead teams and achieve results through resources.

  • IT site support for the plant consisting of Server updates, confirmation of patches etc.

  • A minimum of 3+ years’ experience in industrial-type PLC programming or equivalent amount of technical schooling and experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or 5+ years’ experience along with other trainings and certifications preferred.

  • Read and interpret electrical schematics.

  • Experience with 24 VDC through 480 VAC power and control systems.

  • Can safely use test equipment for troubleshooting.

  • Programming and troubleshooting knowledge of Allen Bradley programmable controllers.

  • Understand packaging and industrial automation processes.

  • Requires skill in the use of technicians' tools such as electric meters, oscilloscopes, calibration devices, electronic testers, etc.

  • Controls Engineering emphasis is required in addition to practical experience of 5 years in food manufacturing and food controls system design.
