Job Title: ControllerJob Description
The Controller oversees all financial operations of the Business Office, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, financial and management reporting, and treasury. The Controller manages relationships with external auditors, tax professionals, and insurance brokers while fostering a culture of operational excellence and collaboration throughout the organization. This individual will report to the CFO and oversee the senior accountant and AP/AR individuals.
Responsibilities
Assist with the planning, development, and implementation of accounting functions that support the organization’s growth objectives.
Collaborate with the chief financial officer and departmental teams to establish and monitor key performance indicators and strategic objectives.
Develop and implement policies and best practices to optimize financial performance as directed.
Assist with the annual budgeting process and long-term financial planning efforts to support strategic initiatives and business growth.
Oversee month end close, including account reconciliations and forecast updates, ensuring timely and accurate financial results.
Coordinate and manage external audits, addressing auditor inquiries and ensuring compliance with audit and financial reporting standards.
Coordinate and manage the preparation and filing of annual tax returns, addressing inquiries and preparing supporting documentation.
Coordinate and manage the annual insurance renewal, completing applications and responding to inquiries.
Monitor the organization’s cash flow.
Oversee accounting and financial statement preparation.
Prepare financial results and analytics for quarterly Board meetings.
Other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills
Minimum 2+ years experience as a controller or 5+ years experience in a senior accounting role.
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field.
Leadership experience overseeing a minimum of one person.
Experience in annual budgeting, month-end close, account reconciliations, managing audits, financial reporting, annual tax returns, and insurance renewal.
Intermediate to advanced level Excel skills.
Strong computer skills with the ability to learn new systems.
Excellent communication and professionalism.
Positive attitude.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Non-profit experience or experience auditing for a non-profit.
MBA or CPA certification.
Work Environment
This position offers a hybrid schedule with work days in the office on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and remote work on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The work hours are Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm. The office is set within a college environment, providing a sense of community and involvement in educational initiatives. This role offers flexible hours, opportunities for growth, and a better work-life balance compared to corporate environments.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $48.00 - $62.00
