What you will do:
The SaaS Continuity Engineering team is responsible for the design and build of systems and services that enables Oracle to deliver industry-leading availability and performance objectives for Oracle’s SaaS services. The team architects and develops high-availability and service continuity solutions across the entire stack – infrastructure, database, platform, and application services – and all the dependent components. The engineering innovations enable SaaS services to be managed, operated and available to our customers in 24x7 environment, guaranteeing continuous uptimes and minimal disruptions across our growing fleet. We are building these next-generation service continuity solutions in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. We are looking for a Principal Database Engineer who can drive innovation in design and develop system enhancements at the core of our SaaS platform to achieve maximum availability and performance at extreme scale.
As a Principal Database Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring that databases driving our SaaS services are designed, built and managed to deliver the highest level of availability, performance and resiliency for our customers. You will bring your extensive experience in building and managing innovative cloud native services influencing architecture and implementing scalable SaaS services and improving the underlying platforms. You will collaborate with key stakeholders across multiple teams to deliver solutions. The ideal candidate will be expected to demonstrate strength in cloud technologies and distributed systems with a very deep understanding of Oracle Database and Exadata platform, especially focused on delivering innovations in system uptime, health and resiliency for large-scale cloud environments. In this role you will contribute to product strategy, define technical architecture, and implement next generation availability and resiliency features for Oracle’s SaaS cloud.

Responsibilities
Required Qualifications
BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
8+ years of hands-on experience designing and managing large scale Oracle database deployments.
Deep understanding of Oracle Database platform capabilities.
Proven hands-on technical expertise in Oracle Database, Exadata, HA infrastructure, RAC and ASM.
Extensive experience troubleshooting and root causing complex performance and availability issues driving health and resiliency enhancements.
Experienced practitioner of Oracle Maximum Availability Architecture & Best Practices for Oracle Database & Exadata.
Experience implementing disaster recovery solutions with Oracle Data Guard.
Advanced coding and scripting skills (Java/Python, SQL/PLSQL and Shell).
Strong understanding and experience with cloud infrastructure services.
Experience building highly availability, fault tolerant cloud services focused on automation and efficiency.
Understand the end-to-end configuration, technical dependencies, and overall behavioral characteristics of production services.
Able to effectively communicate technical ideas verbally and in writing.
Proficiency working in a collaborative, agile development environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Hands-on experience developing and operating services on a public cloud platform (Examples: Amazon Web Services, Azure, Google Cloud Platform, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure).
Understanding of distributed computing and cloud-based platforms.
Experience and understanding of cloud infrastructure services, multi-region, and multi-availability domain designs.
Experience with Oracle Autonomous database platform.
Experience with Observability frameworks to drive intelligent actions.
Automation mindset to deliver efficiencies at scale.

Range and benefit information provided in this posting are specific to the stated locations only
US: Hiring Range: from $94,200 to $223,500 per annum. May be eligible for bonus and equity.
Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle’s differing products, industries and lines of business.
Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.

Paid time off: Flexible Vacation is provided to all eligible employees assigned to a salaried (non-overtime eligible) position. Accrued Vacation is provided to all other employees eligible for vacation benefits. For employees working at least 35 hours per week, the vacation accrual rate is 13 days annually for the first three years of employment and 18 days annually for subsequent years of employment. Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.
