Merck Director, Quality (Business Systems and Strategy Lead) in Trenton, New Jersey
Job Description
The Business Systems and Strategy Lead will report to the VP, Global Pharmaceutical Operations Quality, and will serve as a member of his/her leadership team. This role will provide direction for the GPO Quality strategy and management of budgetary controls for a global team.
The incumbent will direct and enable business systems and strategy-related activities for the GPO Quality team, including, but not limited to, the following:
Directing change and standardization; driving and aligning strategic initiatives across GPO Quality and supporting our Manufacturing Division strategic journey towards World Class Manufacturing and Supply
Providing leadership and oversight for the Tier and governance processes and meetings across GPO Quality
Driving continuous improvement in key performance indicators and business outcomes
Enabling and leading a robust Hoshin Kanri development and deployment environment, supported by effective change management and governance processes
Delivering effective portfolio management for GPO Quality
Providing leadership for GPO quality financial tracking and reporting
Executing Chief of Staff responsibilities in support of the VP, GPO Quality
Job Responsibilities
Financial Management: Manages the interpretation and aggregation of financial data for GPO Quality, including overseeing the development of the profit plan, forecast updates, and capital plans
Partners with Regional Leads and Site Quality Heads to Identify and facilitate resolution of major deviations from financial plans, and leads the development of identification of improvement opportunities
Leads the Financial Management support team for GPO Quality and EQA; Hoshin/Strategy Development and Deployment; Plays a leadership role in planning for and leading annual Hoshin for GPO Quality
Establishes governance process to monitor milestone actions and drive forward progress for all Hoshin actions identified
Portfolio Management: Works with the GPO Quality Leadership Team to identify key initiatives and enable critical projects within the area
Ensures tools, resources and infrastructure are in place to support initiatives
Ensures learnings and best practices are shared and standardized across the area
Assures appropriate sponsorship and enrollment for key strategic initiatives
Metrics: Supports the development and interpretation of business and systems metrics, as appropriate
Identifies and assesses gaps through trending and/or root cause analysis
Identifies and leverages best practices and process improvements
Training and Capability Build: Provides effective training and capability support for GPO Quality colleagues in EQA roles and in above-site roles
Impact
This position will have direct impact on the effectiveness and efficiency of the GPO Quality through oversight of portfolio management and progress against key performance indicators.
Will ensure that tools, resources, and infrastructure are in place to support initiative and project realization.
Will identify best practices and assure they are shared across the organization to enable key progress against strategic priorities.

This position will work collaboratively with all levels of the organization.
Will have the decisions on systems and processes to be used for portfolio management, business improvements, strategy planning and issue escalation and will assure that all decisions are made based on inclusive and collaborative input, and that risks are assessed.
Problem Solving
Expertise in Company Productions System (CPS) / operational excellence is desired to enable effective problem solving.
Change management execution will be key to assure the development of critical mindsets to enable problem identification and resolution.
Ability to model inclusive behaviors in and across organizations will lead to collaborative problem solving.
Leadership
- As a member of the GPO Quality Leadership Team (QLT), this position will directly engage with and influence the GPO QLT and extended team members.
Minimum Education Requirement and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in a scientific or related area of study with ten (10) years of strategy development and oversight work experience in a pharmaceutical, biotech or medical device industry.

U.S. Hybrid Work Model

The Company is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this job in certain states and cities within the United States. Final determinations with respect to salary will take into account a number of factors, which may include, but not be limited to the primary work location and the chosen candidate’s relevant skills, experience, and education.
Expected US salary range:
$149,400.00 - $235,100.00
