UCLA Health Medical Scribe - Endocrinology, Torrance in Torrance, California

Description

As a Medical Scribe with the Endocrinology clinic in Torrance, you will assist physicians with various administrative aspects of patient care. You will work in close association with physicians assigned to the department and will be part of the medicine team. Under the direction of physicians, responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Recording the physician medical record documentation (electronic or paper) of patient history, physical exam findings, progress notes, and procedure notes

  • Follow-up of laboratory and diagnostic results

  • Expediting consults

  • Monitoring the completion of charts and send incomplete charts back to appropriate physicians as needed

Salary Range: $21.93-$30.74/hourly

Senate Bill 525 was signed into law by Governor Newsom in October 2023. Starting June 1, 2024, SB525 sets a new $23 minimum wage for nonexempt healthcare workers and raises the exempt employee salary threshold to $1,380/week (equivalent to $5,980/month or $71,760/year).

  1. As defined under SB525, healthcare workers are defined as employees who are involved in the provision of 'health care services,' which means 'patient care-related services including nursing; caregiving; services provided by medical residents, interns, or fellows; technical and ancillary services; janitorial work; housekeeping; grounds keeping; guard duties; business office clerical work; food services; laundry; medical coding and billing; call center and warehouse work; scheduling; and gift shop work; but only where such services support patient care'.

  2. Employees (career, contract, student, per diem) in the UCLA Health medical facilities (e.g. Ronald Reagan Medical Center, Santa Monica UCLA Hospital, Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital, etc.) meet these criteria.

Qualifications

Required:

  1. Ability to perform under the pressure of frequent interruptions and distractions

  2. Ability to proofread very detailed materials and monitor work accurately

  3. Strong interpersonal skills to effectively and diplomatically interact with others

  4. Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills

  5. Ability to speak clearly and distinctly using appropriate vocabulary and grammar to obtain and convey information

  6. Skill in working independently and following through on assignments with minimal supervision

  7. Ability to maintain equanimity in the face of resistance, indifference or hostility

  8. Knowledge and skill in using various computer programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook email and database software

  9. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers, faculty, residents, nurses, students, University representatives, patients and the public

  10. Willingness to work a flexible schedule which will include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays

  11. Ability to organize and track multiple records and requests and follow through in a timely manner

  12. Ability to handle confidential material while protecting its strict confidentiality

Preferred:

  1. A minimum of two years of scribe or related physician support experience

  2. Prior experience with training new Physician Support Assistants

  3. Previous experience with electronic medical records such as Medhost, EPIC, Cerner, etc.

  4. Detailed knowledge of medical terminology and the ability to distinguish different exams and medical diagnoses is required.

  5. Knowledge of E&M codes and the level of documentation necessary for each billing level
