Overview
THE ROLE:
As the Director of Data Governance & Platform Operations, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the integrity, security, and efficiency of our organization's data infrastructure. You will lead initiatives to establish and implement data governance policies, standards, and procedures to optimize data quality, privacy, and compliance across the organization. Additionally, you will be responsible for the operations of our data platforms, including database management systems, data warehouses, and data lakes, to ensure they are scalable, reliable, and aligned with business objectives. You will collaborate closely with multi-functional teams to drive innovation and enable data-driven decision-making at all levels of the organization.
HOW YOU WOULD CONTRIBUTE:
Data Governance Leadership:
Develop and implement data governance frameworks, policies, and procedures to ensure the integrity, availability, and security of data assets.
Establish and implement data standards, data quality metrics, and data classification guidelines to maintain consistency and accuracy across all data sources.
Collaborate with multi-functional teams to promote data governance standard methodologies, raise awareness of data policies, and cultivate a culture of data stewardship throughout the organization.
Platform Operations Management:
Be responsible for the day-to-day operations of data platforms, including data warehouses, data lakes, analytics tools, and related infrastructure.
Define platform requirements, assess technology needs, and make recommendations for platform enhancements or upgrades to support business objectives.
Monitor platform performance, tackle issues, and implement scalable solutions to ensure optimal system availability, reliability, and performance.
Compliance & Risk Management:
Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA), industry standards, and internal policies governing data access, usage, and retention.
Conduct regular audits and assessments of data governance practices, identify potential risks or vulnerabilities, and implement corrective actions to mitigate them.
Collaborate with legal, compliance, and security teams to develop strategies for data protection, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning.
Team Leadership & Development:
Build and lead a hard-working team of data engineers, platform administrators, and data governance specialists.
Provide mentorship, coaching, and professional development opportunities to team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth.
Establish performance metrics, conduct regular performance evaluations, and recognize achievements to empower and retain top talent.
Stakeholder Engagement & Communication:
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to streamline processes, enhance data quality, and optimize platform performance.
Foster a culture of innovation and experimentation, encouraging the exploration of new technologies, methodologies, and standard processes in data governance and platform operations.
Leverage data analytics and performance metrics to find opportunities for optimization, cost reduction, and business value creation.

Qualifications
SKILLS AND BACKGROUND REQUIRED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:
Demonstrable experience (10+ years) in data governance, platform operations, or related roles, with demonstrated leadership capabilities.
In-depth knowledge of data management principles, data governance frameworks, and industry standard methodologies.
Proficiency in data integration tools, database technologies, and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
Leadership and Team Management:
Validated experience in leading and developing hard-working teams.
Ability to inspire and mentor team members to achieve data management goals.
Good interpersonal skills to collaborate optimally with multi-functional teams.
Analytical Thinking:
Exceptional problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze sophisticated data-related issues.
Capacity to identify trends, patterns, and insights from data to advise decision-making.
Business Acumen:
Deep understanding of business processes and the ability to align data strategies with organizational objectives.
Track record of using data to drive business improvement and innovation.
Project Management:
Proficiency in project management methodologies to be responsible for data-related projects.
Ability to define project goals, handle resources, and ensure timely project delivery.
Adaptability and Innovation:
Flexibility to adapt to evolving data technologies and industry trends.
Proactive approach to identifying and implementing innovative data solutions.
Ethics:
Commitment to maintaining data security, privacy, and compliance with regulations.
Alignment to ethical standards in data management and decision-making.
Strong Communication Skills:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey complex data concepts to both technical and non-technical partners.
Ability to communicate data findings and recommendations effectively to senior leadership and executives.
Experience:
Candidates should have 10+ years of leadership experience in data governance and platform operations, with a proven track record of implementing data governance frameworks and handling complex data platforms.
Strong expertise in data architecture, compliance, team member engagement, and driving continuous improvement initiatives is essential.
Education:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, data management, information systems, or a related field. Advanced certifications in data governance or privacy (e.g., CDMP, CIPP, CIPT) are a plus.
