Reporting to the Manager, the Trainer will deliver and assist with developing technical and non-technical training for Corporate Real Estate Management and consult with the management team and other subject matter experts as applicable to continuously improve training curricula and service delivery.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Implements detailed plans and recommends policies/procedures regarding program specific requirements.

  • Conducts research into assigned area ensuring that such research takes into account developments within the field, corporate policies and practices, legislation and initiatives by other levels of government.

  • Provides input into and administers assigned budget, ensuring that expenditures are controlled and maintained within approved budget limitations.

  • Implements and delivers/facilitates training programs and testing standards. Assists with the development and maintenance of courses, training materials as well as resources to reflect current technology and procedures.

  • Provides subject matter expertise related to a function or technical skill.

  • Assesses and evaluates participants' skills, knowledge and performance. Monitors on-the-job training programs.

  • Collects data on training evaluations and performance measurement tools.

  • Makes recommendations for employees to enter/remain in programs and participates in the selection process.

  • Participates in labour relation matters as they relate to the division's training initiatives (i.e. program specific certifications, apprenticeship programs, etc.) and delivery of training.

  • Assists the Manager/Supervisor with updates to position skills profiles and individual training plans.

  • Assists the Manager/Supervisor in the procurement and administration of services, materials and equipment related to staff training initiatives in support of legislative compliance and divisional goals.

  • Assists the Manager/Supervisor with the maintenance of a computerized tracking process to track course attendance, course completion, skills level attainments and participant and facilitator feedback. Tracks and monitors records to ensure regulatory compliance.

  • Prepares reports on training and skills development and compliance issues.

  • Supervises projects related to Workforce Development as assigned, and ensures associated expenditures are controlled and maintained within approved budget limitations.

Key Qualifications:

  1. Post-secondary degree or diploma in education, training or related field or approved equivalent combination of experience and/or education.

  2. Extensive experience leading projects, setting priorities, and developing work plans to plan, coordinate, and deliver training and workshops to large groups both in-person and virtually.

  3. Considerable experience consulting and shadowing stakeholders and subject matter experts to provide effective adult training and development, including: conducting needs analysis, developing training lesson plans, training evaluation materials and key performance indicators.

  4. Considerable experience with corporate standard software applications (i.e. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Internet); utilizing associated multi-media training delivery methods. SAP and PowerBI experience would be an asset.

  5. Considerable experience with various technical aspects of facility operations (i.e., building systems, custodial operations, client relationship management, preventative maintenance programs, building automation systems, etc.), and safe work practices.

  6. Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Province of Ontario, Class “G” Driver’s License and have access to a personal vehicle. Ability to qualify for the City’s equipment operating permits would be an asset.

  7. Comprehensive knowledge of applicable legislation and industry standards, including but not limited to: the Occupational Health & Safety Act and associated regulations, ESA, collective agreements and related labour legislation. 

  8. Effective communication at various organizational levels, including verbal, written and through presentation.

  9. Ability to work flexible hours as required including evenings and weekends.

  10. Ability to travel to various work locations across the city as travel will be required.
