CN's network and technologies across North America:

Is composed of all types of communications media including fiber, copper, cell, wireless and microwave.

Is composed of more than 8000 Cisco routers and switches, more than 700 access points and 700 Nokia MPLS service routers.

Is composed packet shapers and IP management platforms and Cloud computing.

Job Summary

The role of Specialist Network/Telecom is a highly technical position with in-depth subject matter expertise. The role is responsible to ensure the overall availability, stability, performance and integrity of CN's network and telecom infrastructure, and as such must constantly work towards improving the monitoring, security, and performance of the environment. One of the main goals of the Operation Specialist is to focus on system growth, capacity planning and to deliver automation functionalities to optimize support tasks. The Operation Specialist is responsible for design review and acceptance, complex Incident and Problem Management; training and mentoring, as well as providing 3rd level support.

CN is looking for a self-starter who can rapidly analyze situations, and decisively take justifiable actions. Some travel may be required.

Main Responsibilities

Operation Excellence

· Lead and execute installations/upgrades, configuration and maintenance of the networking infrastructure.

· Review and approve change controls.

· Quality review of infrastructure changes and implementations.

· Lead “Life cycle projects” initiatives (analyze, test, deploy).

· Lead problem investigation and follow-up on resolution.

· Perform preventive maintenance tasks.

· Monitor and maintain system availability and performance.

· Works with other team members to develop and implement process improvement.

· Takes ownership in defining key performance indicators (KPIs) related to:

· Capacity and performance

· Service / Network

· Create and maintain operational documentation.

· Advanced troubleshooting, vulnerability and bug corrections with vendors.

· Ensure compliance with all appropriate CN IT standards.

· Train and coach team on new capabilities and upcoming technology trends.

· Automate and optimize support tasks.

  • Provide 3 rd Level support to pager roster (24/7) rotation basis

Delivery

· Work with project team to deliver required infrastructure/solutions.

· Participate in the project transition and support strategies (T2C).

· Act as a Telecom lead on a set of assigned strategies and projects.

· Create and maintain operational documentation.

· Contribute to technical proposals, specifications, requirements and design documents.

· Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders and vendors as necessary.

The Specialist Network & Telecom will be play the role of a technical subject matter expert (SME) within the team and collaborate with the various architecture, infrastructure, security and application teams to provide guidance related to network & telecom technologies.

REQUIREMENTS:

· Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent. Telecommunications specialization preferred.

· 5+ years in IT with a minimum of 3+ years of demonstrated experience in providing hands-on technical expertise within large corporate environments.

· Expertise in LAN/WAN technologies, IPAM.

· Expertise in Datacenter technologies (Leaf and spine technology).

· Knowledge and troubleshooting skills in EIGRP, IS-IS, BGP, MP-BGP, MPLS, redistribution between different routing protocols.

· Knowledge of TCP/IP stack, IPv4, TCP, UDP, ICMP, ARP, GRE, IPSEC, ESP, NAT, DHCP, DNS, FHRPs, QoS, SNMP, Tacacs, Radius.

· Knowledge of Cisco Wi-Fi networks, including Cisco Prime, WLCs, APs, ISE and all related technologies.

· Experience/knowledge in SD-WAN solutions

· Knowledge in cloud solutions (Google, Azure)

· Experience and knowledge in operations and optimization of IP networks.

· Good understanding of communications media (fibre, copper, wireless) and structured cabling best practices.

· Excellent oral, written and presentation skills.

· Cisco CCNP/CCIE Certification or equivalent knowledge.

ASSETS:

· Scripting skills (network automation)

· Knowledge of Firewall (Juniper and Palo Alto)

· Experience with cellular solutions, including APN, CDMA, GSM, HSPA, UMTS, GPRS/EDGE, LTE and others.

· Experience with Nokia 7750, 7705 and 7210 platforms

· Experience in building business cases and providing estimates
