Amazon Software Development Manager in Toronto, Ontario

Description

We have a highly skilled team that builds applications that use exciting new AWS services and open source frameworks from IoT to Machine Learning to chat bots and image recognition. We are looking for top-notch engineering managers with a strong agile mindset and an ability to dive deep to drive product innovation.

The team uses rapid innovation to solve really hard problems. These range from using image recognition to find missing persons to Artificial Intelligence to optimizing rideshares; from building data lakes to ingest and rapidly analyze vast amounts of data for actionable insights to finding new ways to help scientists visualize and analyze genomic data. We rapidly build applications that use exciting AWS services and open source frameworks.

What will you do? You will:

  • Hire and manage a team of exceptional software developers

  • Own success across multiple development engagements

  • Help your team Invent and Simplify to solve really hard business and technical challenges

  • Influence the strategic roadmap for creation of reusable solutions that accelerate cloud adoption

  • Set operational metrics and drive best practices

  • Build strong relationships with Customer Sales, Business Development, Solutions Architect, and Professional Services teams to help them accelerate AWS Adoption

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience

  • 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience

  • 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
