Department Overview:

Operational Risk Management (ORM) works as an independent team, in partnership with the businesses and corporate functions of TD Bank Group, to further the understanding and management of operational risk across the Enterprise.

TD Securities and Treasury ORM is part of the 2nd line and provides independent operational risk management oversight of TD Securities and Treasury Balance Sheet Management (TBSM). We partner with the 1st line of defense in identifying, reporting, and mitigating operational risk issues and are the subject matter experts on the operational risk framework and business risks/processes/controls. The group executes 2A accountabilities in support of the three lines of defense framework with a mandate to enable business growth, within risk appetite through a culture of effective challenge and continuous improvement.

Senior Manager, ORM . The Senior Manager will report to the AVP, TDST ORM and is accountable to:

  • Coordinate and manage ORM programs, including liaising with Corporate ORM on program changes, developing and overseeing reporting, ensuring effective escalation, maintaining documentation and, conducting ongoing training.

  • Maintain a strong understanding of current TBSM business and function risks to adequately assess risk exposures and impacts.

  • Manage the relationship with TBSM Business partners, manage the review and challenge of program outputs, oversight lead on business material change and, lead the review of New Business and Product Approval submissions.

  • Contribute to the strategic leadership and direction of TDST ORM

  • Analyze data, make recommendations, and spear head deep dive reviews based on emerging trends and risks.

  • Be known for providing creative thought leadership while also listening and engaging others to provide input in the shaping of that vision.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with key business and control group stakeholders.

  • Keep abreast of emerging issues, trends, and evolving regulatory requirements and best practices in so far as they relate to operational risk management.

  • Assess/identify key issues and escalate to appropriate levels and relevant stakeholders.

  • Identify, mitigate, and report on risk issues per enterprise policy/guidelines.

  • Share training, tools, and advice to support policy and compliance.

  • Act as a leader and mentor within the immediate team and outside of it.

Job Requirements

  • Recognized as top level expert in operational risk, significant in-depth and/or breadth of expertise.

  • Previous experience with TBSM and /or Capital Markets is preferred but not required.

  • Previous direct or indirect people management experience.

  • Undergraduate degree or technical certificate and ten years of related experience.

  • A strong negotiator and decision maker with sound judgment who can influence business leaders.

  • A dynamic leader who can communicate effectively and build relationships across teams and functions.

  • Able to identify and lead problems to a resolution for project and products with complex requirements.

  • Able to engage stakeholders at all levels and bring them to an agreement on the required actions by serving as a source of expert advice.

  • Able to provide leadership guidance, make recommendations and, collaborate with the business to ensure solutions meet their needs.

  • Senior specialist, able to provide advisory services to executives and business segment leaders.

  • Able to integrate knowledge of Treasury Balance Sheet Management and/or its products, and its strategy when leading programs and initiatives.

  • Able to independently solve unique and ambiguous problems that have a broad impact.
