Contributes to the overall success of the Finance Department / Canadian Banking Finance in Canada ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities follow governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures. The incumbent is primarily responsible for the accuracy and reliability of transactional and accounting information on credit cards and various loan products in accordance with IFRS and regulatory requirements. This individual will oversee the end‐to‐end Finance processes to account for the Bank’s credit card offerings and will be accountable for the day-to-day operations and oversight of the Bank’s credit card accounting. The Senior Manager Credit Card Accounting will report directly to the Senior Manager of Treasury Operations, Loan and Securitization Accounting.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.

  • Manage the accounting, analysis, financial reporting, and ongoing monitoring of the credit card portfolio.

  • Manage all aspects of the month‐end, quarter‐end, and year‐end accounting as pertaining to the Bank’s credit card offering. This includes, but is not limited to, fee revenue accounting; loyalty program and rewards accounting; accounting, tracking, reconciliation and reporting of credit card related credit losses; manage external and internal auditor queries.

  • Responsible for overseeing the timely reconciliation of all general ledger accounts related to the credit card product.

  • Monitor external vendor’s daily activities to ensure timely and accurate settlement with the Network provider (MasterCard).

  • Review all of the finance department’s credit card policies, procedures, processes to ensure they are updated dynamically for all changes effected in the business environment; product features and/or accounting/regulatory standards.

  • Oversee and manage the accounting and reporting of credit card loyalty and rewards programs including parent company reporting and settlement.

  • Manage the relationship and communications with the external finance vendors related to the credit card product offering.

  • Manage the review and implementation of changes in relevant accounting standards.

  • Prepare and present monthly analysis and results, key performance metrics and commentary for credit cards and other loan products as needed.

  • Prepare and manage reporting to external vendors, regulators and internal stakeholders related to the credit card portfolio.

  • Manage the development and analysis of financial statement schedules and note disclosures.

  • Establish and maintain procedures to assist implementation of new/changed products, systems and processes ensuring that changes are accurately captured.

  • Lead finance projects such as implementation of new product introductions or regulatory requirements that span across teams and departments.

  • Streamline and improve current processes and procedures.

  • Provide support to Regulatory Reporting and Management Accounting teams on info request and inquiries.

  • Liaise with Internal and external auditors.

  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day‐to‐day activities and decisions.

  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct, and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day‐to‐day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • Education/Experience

  • University Degree in Finance or Business Administration

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in the financial service industry

  • Professional Certification

  • A recognized Accounting Designation

  • Specialized Knowledge

  • Knowledge of credit card and associated loyalty program accounting/operations.

  • Technical Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong computer skills and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Access and TSYS. Knowledge of Visual Basic and SQL a plus.

  • Abilities

  • Ability to learn to gather information from Enterprise Data Warehouse.

  • Ability to multi tasks.

  • Self-starter and able to work independently and exercise good professional judgement.

  • Demonstrated technical accounting expertise, particularly in credit card accounting.

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
