Jays Care Foundation, the charitable arm of the Toronto Blue Jays, uses the power of baseball to create positive social change in communities across Canada. We are currently looking for passionate and dedicated staff to deliver our RBI programs in Toronto. Our RBI programs (https://www.mlb.com/bluejays/community/jays-care/rbi) include:

  • RBI Spring (April to June) – an inclusive baseball/softball program implemented in partnership with schools to remove any barriers that students may face getting into the game. Beginning in April, the program runs afterschool for 10 weeks for students in grades 4-8 to participate in weekly practices and organized games.

  • RBI Summer Edition (July to August) – a free afternoon baseball-for-development program hosted at priority schools running morning summer school programs. At the program, students will engage in a wide range of recreational activities including inclusive baseball training, cooperative games, arts and crafts and team-building.

RBI Spring Baseball League Convenor

RBI Spring is looking for 2 Baseball League Convenors to support program implementation in schools across Toronto.

REPORTS TO: Program Specialist, RBI Spring

CONTRACT DURATION: January 13 – June 27, 2025

  • 21 hours/week (January to March)

  • 28 hours/week (March to June)

  • Mandatory Training & Event Days:

  • Saturday, March 15 – Coach Training

  • Sunday, March 16 – Coach Training

  • Tuesday, March 18 – Coach Training

  • Friday, April 25 – Coach Training

  • Monday, June 8 – Coach Training

  • Tuesday, June 9 – Final Tournament Day 1

  • Wednesday, June 10 – Final Tournament Day 2

  • Thursday, June 11 – Final Tournament Day 3

WORK LOCATION: Hybrid, travel required to Rogers Centre and schools across Toronto

COMPENSATION: $21/hour plus travel reimbursement

RBI Spring Baseball League Convenor will:

  • Support the recruitment and hiring of RBI Spring coaches

  • Support the planning, design, logistics and facilitation of coaches training and pre-season meetings

  • Support the revision and creation of program curriculum, material and resources (official game rules, coaching manual, coach resources, posters, etc.)

  • Coordinate the ordering, tracking and distribution of program equipment, uniforms and supplies

  • Create individual school and league schedules for practices and games

  • Coordinate pre-season school visits for coaches

  • Coordinate travel and booking logistics of school permits, buses and snack deliveries

  • Communicate program updates, announcements, opportunities and information to schools and coaches

  • Conduct daily visits to RBI Spring schools to support program implementation, assess program quality and check-in with coaches

  • Provide on-the-ground coaching and support to RBI Spring coaches

  • Address, document and report any program concerns as they arise

  • Collect and track game results and school points through a tracking software

  • Support the roll-out and logistics of wrap-around supports made available to schools

  • Plan the design and implementation of the end-of-season final tournament

  • Assist with any additional program administrative duties as needed

A great candidate will have:

  • Prior experience as an RBI Spring Coach

  • Experience working with children and youth who face significant barriers to accessing sport and recreation opportunities

  • Experience playing, coaching and/or officiating baseball/softball in a league setting

  • Strong administrative skills with high attention to detail

  • High level of energy and a commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive and fun environment for all participants

  • Ability to have a flexible schedule and work occasional evenings and weekends

  • Current and valid Class G Driver’s license and access to a vehicle to travel around the city of Toronto to various school sites

  • Current Standard First Aid certification, or willing to obtain certification prior to the start of work contract
