As Producer for CBC Sports Digital Studio , you conceive of, plan and create social, website and broadcast content for all digital and broadcast platforms in CBC Sports, in collaboration with program teams and multiple internal and/or external stakeholders (i.e. sports federations and sponsors). The producer will work with both written and visual content, which may include filming and editing video or images.

As producer you would plan, in collaboration with the Senior Producer and the Executive Producer, the production/resource requirements and finances, including the creative contributions of other participants, the materials and facilities. During program preparation, production and post-production, the producer is responsible and accountable for exercising budget authority. You will be required to regularly co-ordinate the work of others, including planning the work schedules of others to meet business needs.

Work must adhere to CBC journalistic and/or program policies, standards and practices and the Producer is ultimately responsible for ensuring that this occurs. Nevertheless, there is wide latitude for initiative, independent judgment and creativity.

The work also requires:

  • Establish and coordinate production schedules for all digital studio work;

  • Create and maintain editorial calendar that aligns with sports events and departmental priorities;

  • Pitch and deliver ideas around strategic editorial pillars;

  • Participate in all production meetings as representative of digital studio;

  • Participate in regular 1:1 meetings with Executive Producer, Digital to report on progress and findings;

  • Work as a bridge between television and digital production;

  • Oversee digital video production from ideation to final product;

  • Overall coordinates with the Unit Production Manager (Finance) and Producers to ensure optimum operation of the production unit;

  • Plan, organize and co-ordinate the program or the components and/or segments of a program, or programs;

  • Troubleshoot software/hardware issues;

  • Act as point of contact for all digital studio training within the department;

  • Identify, develop and maintain contacts appropriate to the area of assignment;

  • Ensure, in collaboration with Copyright Clearance Officers or others, the proper and accurate clearance of all material used in the program;

  • Assign, co-ordinate and supervise the work of personnel who contribute to the program or segment for which the Producer is responsible;

  • Actively seek out new partnership opportunities for CBC Sports.

What you bring:

  • Post Secondary degree or equivalent;

  • At least five years' experience of which three must involve work in Digital Media or a closely related industry, which is directly related to the area of assignment;

  • Experience working in traditional media such as television broadcast is an asset;

  • Proven experience producing excellent interactive and social content that is popular, and easy for the audience to find and use;

  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure;

  • Flexibility to adapt to changing work patterns and methods;

  • An innovator and risk taker who is open to new ideas and approaches;

  • Excellent negotiating, communication and multi-tasking skills, along with proven judgment and tact;

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, overtime and weekends as required. (for example during the Olympics or other international sporting events);

  • Strong sense of journalistic urgency and demonstrated ability to work under tight and firm deadlines;

  • Ability to participate in a highly creative and collaborative team;

  • Ability to work, and direct the work of others, to tight deadlines without sacrificing creativity or quality;

  • Must be able to solve problems independently and in group discussions;

  • Excellent awareness of social media and the sports broadcast industry, and how major industry players are employing a wide range of digital outputs and formats;

  • Ability to write clearly and concisely, including the ability to edit or rework the work of others, and to clearly explain concepts to peers and management;

  • A demonstrated commitment to finding diverse, non-traditional voices;

  • The ability to contribute to the diversity of perspectives on the team with ideas that will help connect with and grow new audiences.
