Position Description
SickKids is recognized as one of the world's foremost paediatric health-care institutions and is Canada's leading centre dedicated to advancing children's health. Nurse Practitioners play a critical role to our success. We are currently looking for a Nurse Practitioner to join the General and Thoracic Surgery Clinic to provide leadership and promote inter-professional excellence and collaboration in child and family-centred -care within the five main role components of expert practice, education, consultation, research and leadership/change agency in a dynamic clinical environment.
Here's What You'll Get To Do
Responsible for the provision of comprehensive health care to various patient populations in General Surgery Ambulatory program.
Integrate nursing and medical skills and knowledge within a broad scope of advanced nursing practice, caring for patients/families. Initially the focus will be Ambulatory and development of an integrated Ambulatory/Inpatient NP model that will include support for Inpatient care.
Provide guidance to children and families as they progress through their treatment plans.
Identify, link with and collaborate with services and resources in the community as required.
Foster interprofessional collaboration in the coordination of plans of care with both the Ambulatory and Inpatient clinical teams.
Assume a leadership role in advancing the quality of clinical practice and the provision of high quality, safe care.
Provide mentorship and coaching to support the development of nursing and Interprofessional colleagues.
Provide leadership in the development and implementation of programming to effectively transition youth and their families to adult services.
Identify, integrate and evaluate research-based innovations for improving patient care.
Create, utilize and/or disseminate new knowledge using formal and informal channels.
Provide relevant health education to families that is based on their needs, learning styles and stage of development.
Provide leadership in planning for successful transition of youth/families to adult programs outside of SickKids.
Here's What You'll Need
Master of Nursing or equivalent, with a clinical focus
Completion of a Nurse Practitioner program (within MN or post-master certificate)
Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario within the RN (Extended Class)
3 - 5 years of clinical nursing experience, experience as an NP an asset
Proven ability in a leadership role
Ability to act as a change agent, and foster teamwork and consensus-building
Innovative critical thinking with excellent communication, public speaking and problem-solving skills
Knowledge of theoretical and conceptual frameworks and their practical application
A commitment to understanding and aiding in the pursuit of equity, diversity & inclusion
