The role

Colgate-Palmolive Canada is seeking an experience National Catman Manager to support our Oral Care category!

The National Catman Manager for Oral Care (OC) will act as the expert consultant on OC to internal stakeholders. They will consult to internal teams (Sales, Brand Development Managers (BDM’s), Customer Analytics Managers (CAM’s), Senior Leadership Team (SLT)) to identify National OC opportunities that deliver category and customer growth through fact based recommendations. This role demands high energy, critical thinking, assertive management skills, an aptitude to resolve complex problems, understand market dynamics and employ good decision making skills.

The Category Development Manager proactively analyzes trends in POS, shopper and syndicated data to identify key category opportunities for growth. To succeed in this role, we expect a solid understanding of Category Management processes and practices and will collaborate with both our customers and internal teams in the areas of effective product assortment, shelf merchandising, promotional and pricing recommendations.

What you will do

  • Act as the category expert in OC by digging into key business issues that identify category opportunities for Colgate brands.

  • Develop National sales presentations to aid in listing new innovation & selling stories

  • Utilize shelf management software and category expertise to proactively assess gaps in fair share of shelf, providing best in class shelving principles, employing a National best in class shelf placement strategy for new items and existing products, with an objective of securing distribution/placement

  • Establish strong, multi-level working relationships across internal & external teams based on mutual trust, respect and integrity

  • Communicate and reinforce brand strategies & priorities within Category Management and sales teams.

  • Support brand strategies/priorities working with BDM/ABDM’s/Marketing to support creation of new product initiatives accordingly

  • Support category management growth through the application of the most recent sales technologies including shelf management technologies, point of sale systems and Nielsen applications, with emphasis on fact based selling.

  • Determine the effectiveness of Colgate National promotions through post-analysis, and make recommendations for change

  • Develop National "Grow the Head" strategy, demonstrating efficient assortment optimization & portfolio simplification strategies to support innovation and assessment of tail to enable growth.

  • National Category Management support for Sub Hub, internal reviews, business issues, budgets, MYR, Roadshows, Revenue Growth Management, Innovation sales stories, etc.

  • Utilize consumer panel data on-going to assess changes in shopping behaviour, proactively identify areas of challenge or risk and provide recommendations for change at a National or account level (ie. innovation, delists, size changes, format changes, etc.)

  • Actively participate in team building and best practice sharing to increase team effectiveness.

  • Work across all functional areas of the customer development team in developing the business.

  • Assess monthly performance scorecards to determine drivers of change within OC categories to report back to the business, dig into areas for further assessment and provide actionable recommendations.

  • Nationally, monitor the execution of 5P activities in line with established objectives and guidelines (semi annual review).

  • Strive to be the category expert and go to resource for thought leadership internally and externally

Required Qualifications

  • HBA, BBA, B. Comm/MBA or equivalent

  • 3-5+ years of similar consumer product sales industry background, consumer brand industry or other relevant sales/marketing experience

  • 2+ years experience in Category Management using a syndicated service (Nielsen, Retail Link, Numerator, etc)

  • Proficient skills in JDA Space Planning & Microsoft applications Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Numerator, Nielsen Answers Desktop, Nielsen Homescan, Connect

  • Proficiency in working with cross-functional teams to achieve business results
