Job Description:

Department Overview

Market Risk (MR) is responsible for managing the ever-changing and dynamic world of trading and non-trading market risk, counterparty credit, margin management and liquidity risk. Within MR, we are accountable for supporting TD Securities and TBSM business objectives in accordance with TD’s risk appetite and regulatory expectations. MR provides independent oversight of enterprise-wide market, counterparty credit and liquidity risks; ensuring all significant risks are appropriately measured, reported, analyzed and transparent.

As a Market Risk Analyst in the EU & APAC Team, you will be part of a group that is responsible for several activities related to the analysis, reporting, and monitoring of risk metrics such as market risk, VaR and Stress. In addition, the team executes infrastructure changes with regards to the implementation of new or revised risk policies, regulatory requirements, system updates, ad-hoc measurements used by the Bank to monitor market risk holistically. Market Risk team is a global business supporting trading activities in Toronto, New York, Singapore, London, and Dublin.

You will play a meaningful role in ensuring the integrity and quality of data by generating independent, accurate, and timely reporting of Risk from TD's trading activity.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to collaborate and maintain key relationships with several business partners including Front Office (FO), Market Risk Control, Model Development, Technology, and other business groups within Market Risk.

What You'll Do

  • Support the risk appetite of the bank, by monitor day-to-day operations within the team regarding Market Risk, Value-at Risk ("VaR"), and/or Stress Testing processes. Ensure all analysis is complete and accurate with thorough commentary, while escalating issues in a timely manner.

  • Effectively challenge, propose, and champion projects to improve efficiencies, to provide more effective business support.

  • Understand system and model changes, its results, and impacts, to our Risk, Valuations, VaR, and Stress Testing processes.

  • Take ownership and challenge process designs to deliver changes effectively and efficiently.

  • Establish appropriate review and assessment of the quality of outputs based on business standards. This includes Risk, Valuations, VaR, and Stress Testing outputs for your business. Foster an environment which allows the team to escalate matters effectively and efficiently to mitigate risk, while adhering to CMRM standards and Process Risk and Controls Self-Assessments.

  • Support in identifying innovative opportunities and help drive these initiatives.

  • Evolve analytical capabilities and business knowledge, and develop skills required for today and future, while understanding, identifying and responding proactively to current and emerging risks.

  • Collaborate with business partners which includes, sharing knowledge and identifying opportunities to leverage complementary skills. Partner with our stakeholders to drive and support change and to assist in meeting the bank's objectives.

  • Develop and maintain a good understanding of the analytical principles underlying the pricing and risk management of financial derivatives, including issues that arise regarding financial modeling of products for Risk, Valuations, VaR, and Stress Testing.

What You'll Need

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in Risk Management, Business, Economics, Mathematics, Finance, (Engineering, Physics, Computer Science) or other quantitative disciplines.

  • Pursuit or completion of CFA/FRM is an asset.

  • Knowledge of financial instruments, regulations, and market risk metrics, gained through academic study, or practical experience.

  • Proficient with Microsoft applications.

  • Programming skillsets such as VBA, Python, SQL is an asset to develop, modify and continually improve the risk management infrastructure used to capture and analyze risk.

  • Good understanding of risk management, governance compliance and controls practices.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple deadlines and priorities.

  • Advanced quantitative, analytic, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to understand the impact of economic and market events on trading Valuation and Risk.

  • Strong leadership skill, persuasive, and be able to handle pressure under hard deadlines.

  • Takes ownership and possesses an excellent attitude to see through matters escalated from end-to-end.

  • Strong conceptual and strategic thinking skills, ability to see the big picture in a complex environment and identifying key risks in any process.

  • Independent thinker who takes initiative to capitalize on opportunities and achieve efficiencies with sound business judgement and acumen.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to explain confidential and complex issues as well as experience with recommending changes to management.
