What You’ll Be Doing

CIBC Innovation Banking has proven to be a helpful partner to the innovation ecosystem. The team has demonstrated an ability to support technology and innovation companies with strategic advice and flexible financing solutions that meet the needs of their clients as they start to build and grow their ventures.

As a Director, Portfolio Management for CIBC’s Innovation Banking Group you will be responsible for overseeing a diverse portfolio of innovative tech, healthcare, and life sciences companies throughout North America and Europe. This role will help ensure credit facilities are structured and managed in alignment with CIBC's risk appetite while delivering value to clients. The individual will also collaborate with internal stakeholders to proactively identify under-performing loans, manage risk while balancing relationships, and ensure compliance with regulatory and internal policies.

How You’ll Succeed

  • Help manage the negotiation, structuring and recovery process on high risk accounts.

  • Help other Innovation Banking team members structure, amend and manage through deteriorating situations.

  • Work with external counsel, financial advisors, and internal stakeholders to maximize CIBC’s recoveries, minimize risk and optimizing for the team’s key sponsor relationships.

  • Ensure credit expiries fall below appropriate thresholds.

  • Monitor and manage the team’s RIL items with the requisite portfolio managers and credit writers with the Innovation Banking team.

  • Coordinate, review, and help present key monthly and quarterly portfolio monitoring activities, including: (i) bi-weekly portfolio management meeting for watch list account; (ii) monthly meeting to review Borrower performance with those accounts involving low liquidity; (iii) quarterly high risk review.

  • Proactively communicate and update Credit Risk Management on any material changes to the portfolio of high risk or watch list accounts.

  • Become a Subject Matter Expert on portfolio management and share best practices with the entire CIBC Innovation Banking Team.

Who You Are

  • You demonstrate experience in commercial lending or adjudication and strong knowledge of credit practices and variables that impact upon credit risk. As result, you possess mature business judgment, are proactive, well organized and results-oriented. Some familiarity with insolvency practices used in Canada and the USA is considered an asset

  • You have a Bachelors or equivalent degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Technology or related field. Advanced business degree or professional designation (MBA/CFA/CA/CGA/CMA) or equivalent work experience would be an asset.
