What you’ll be doing

Reporting to the VP, Enterprise-Wide Compliance and Global Regulatory Affairs, the Director, Corporate Function Compliance (CFC) is responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction to a team of Compliance professionals. The objective of the role is to manage, lead and coach a team of CFC Officers, and report on whether the applicable 1st Line group(s) under the CFC team’s purview as the Oversight Function (OF) are appropriately managing regulatory compliance risk in alignment with the Bank’s risk appetite and regulator expectations. This position involves strategic planning, coordination of Regulatory Compliance Management (RCM) activities, and ensuring alignment with industry standards, the Bank’s RCM Policy, and regulator expectations.

How you’ll succeed

  • Team Management – Provide ongoing leadership and guidance to a team of Corporate Function Compliance officers responsible to execute RCM OF activities and serve as a subject matter expert for specific regulatory requirements under their purview.

  • Regulatory Analysis – Stay abreast of changes in relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards applicable to financial institutions. Analyze the impact of regulatory changes on the organization and adjust compliance strategies accordingly within the team’s purview.

  • Strategic Leadership – Provide strategic leadership and direction in the execution of RCM activities and high-level tactics to identify, monitor and mitigate regulatory compliance risk within the team’s purview to ensure alignment with the RCM framework. Provide insights and best practices for process optimization with a focus on operational excellence of end-to-end regulatory compliance processes and mitigations.

  • Collaboration – Provide compliance advisory services to business units within the team’s purview to ensure processes and mitigations are in place to address regulatory compliance risk within CIBC’s risk appetite and in accordance with regulatory requirements and regulator expectations.

  • Relationship Building – Develop and maintain relationships with Oversight Functions, Line of Business leaders, 2nd and 3rd line of defense (LOD) groups to ensure effective oversight processes are in place to effectively reduce the Bank’s exposure to regulatory compliance risk within acceptable levels.

Who you are

In regulatory compliance management activities such as monitoring regulatory changes and reviewing complex legal or regulatory documentation to identify key requirements in order to establish a strong control environment. You have working experience in compliance, risk management, legal, audit, or other governance groups in the financial services industry. You have 5+ years of people management experience providing strategic leadership to a team.
