JOB TITLE: Sr. Maintenance Planner Substation
REQUISITION: TRA00WM
DEPARTMENT: Substation Planning & Scheduling – Topeka Operations Center
LOCATION: Topeka, KS
PAY RANGE: $79,100 – $105,400 (Min-Mid)
Scheduled Work Hours: Monday - Friday 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (Additional hours as required).
Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Under general direction of the Manager, Substation Planning & Scheduling, this position provides job planning and task coordination support for maintenance performed on substations to maximize the efficiency, effectiveness, and productivity. Specific duties include:
Communicates the expectation for safe and efficient execution of precision maintenance activities through the development of complete work packages. Work packages consist of:
Detailed work instructions and procedures
Supporting documents (equipment specifications, bills of material and drawings)
Resource estimates (labor, materials, equipment, tools, and outside services)
Create weekly schedules for mechanical and relay craft within the region. This includes scheduling switching and/or clearances with system operations, tracking NERC compliance work, coordinating capital projects, forecasting future planned work, and organizing other corrective maintenance work.
Achieves higher equipment availability and improves maintenance effectiveness through pre-job coordination activities, such as on-site walkdowns, organizing tasks in a logical manner, interfacing with internal and external customers, requesting the appropriate clearances, arranging for material and equipment staging, and communicating scheduled activities to craft and maintenance management employees.
Manages backlogged preventive, predictive and corrective Substation Maintenance tasks based on their overall risk to equipment health, system reliability, public and employee safety, and the environment.
Actively engages in ongoing reliability, availability, and maintainability improvement efforts, including Preventative Maintenance Optimization (PMO), Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), and Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
Develops and continuously improves personal and departmental planning and scheduling work processes by incorporating maintenance and reliability best practices and feedback from field personnel.
Qualifications
Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires a high school diploma and relevant experience. Prefer technical degree, bachelor’s degree or other related degree that will enhance the candidate’s knowledge, skill, and ability to successfully perform this job.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required:
Expert level knowledge of safe work practices regarding the repair and maintenance of substation equipment such as transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, fuses, capacitors, distribution bus, voltage regulators, etc.
Demonstrated ability to read, interpret and apply information from equipment files, drawings, catalogs, reports, and manuals; as well as perform the basic mathematical computations involved in planning, scheduling, estimating, and purchasing.
High level of proficiency using Maximo, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel applications; along with strong technical writing skills and keyboarding competency.
Self-starter with excellent organizational and time/priority management skills - work with little supervision.
Ability to handle multiple priorities in a highly demanding team atmosphere - keep multiple jobs in controlled motion simultaneously.
Excellent interpersonal skills - the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other personnel including peers, managers, customers, contractors, and other contacts.
Licenses, Certifications, Bonding and/or Testing Required:
Successful candidate must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Working Conditions:
Most of the time will be spent in an office environment, with the sometime being spent in maintenance shops or at substations. Must have satisfactory work record including good attendance.
