STREETS MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN
$22.19/hour plus premium pay of $25/day while on-call.
Includes a comprehensive benefit package including participation in the Utah State Retirement System benefits.
Our streets maintenance division is looking for a new team member. The job duties differ based on the season but it provides you with stable, year round work that is close to home. Your work will range from operating heavy equipment to performing routine manual labor. Examples of duties include:
- Driving a Snow Plow
- Preparing Asphalt for Patching & Repairing Roads
- Installing Street Signs & Warning Devices
- Painting Lines & Markings on Streets
- Clearing Storm Drains & Catch Basins
- Removing Trees & Debris from Roadways
- Setting up Cones, Barricades, and Directional Signs
- Flagging & Directing Traffic
- Operating Loader, Backhoe, and Other Equipment
During the winter, much time is committed to snow removal which will require call-outs and working all hours as needed. You will help improve the safety of our local roadways and may plow for up to 16 hours at a time. While the task is tough, you will feel confident knowing you are making a difference for commuters in our City. Additionally, for call-outs, you have the option to accrue comp-time leave or receive over-time pay. Pick the option that best meets your personal needs.
To be considered you will need:
- To be age 18 or older
- Possess a high school diploma (or equivalent)
- Possess and maintain a valid Utah State Driver License (or obtain prior to hire) and a driving record acceptable to Tooele City's insurability and risk management standards
- Be able to perform duties that are physical in nature with periods of sustained manual labor including bending, lifting of up to 45 lbs., pulling, pushing, walking, standing, and operation of various equipment. Our crew works in the hot weather on asphalt surfaces.
If you do not currently possess a CDL, as a condition of hire and continued employment you will need:
- To obtain your CDL medical card within 3 months of assignment to position, pass the written exam within 4 months of assignment, and obtain a full Class B CDL within 6 months of assignment. If you do not have a CDL upon hire, Tooele City will pay for your training costs to obtain your CDL but you will be required to sign a Training Reimbursement Agreement Plan which requires that you repay a pro-rated reimbursement of tuition and expenses that was paid on your behalf if you resign within one year after attainment.
