Summary

The Medical Assistant provides comprehensive technical functions that support clinic activities, regulatory physical examinations, implementation of drug and alcohol screening, testing and wellness programs, medical treatment and care of industrial injuries and case management.

Minimum Requirements

High school diploma or GED.

Minimum of three (3) years experience working in the health care field (of which two years must be in a regulated medical/fitness for duty environment).

Preferred Special Skills, Knowledge or Qualifications:

  • Certified to perform a broad range of health-related testing functions, to include but not limited to: hearing conservation, pulmonary function, immunoassay screening.

  • Understand the theory and application of a wide range of health-related equipment, materials and processes.

  • Mathematical/analytical aptitude.

  • Basic MS Word/Windows/E-Mail.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Experience working in an occupational health setting of a large organization with multiple team members including healthcare providers, medical assistants and nursing staff.

  • Experience in occupational health in the Utilities sector.

  • Certifications by Council for Accreditations in Occupational Hearing (CAOHC) and/or National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).

  • Certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS), Pulmonary Function Testing, Occupational Hearing Conservation, Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

  • Knowledge in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations.

  • Knowledge of regulations, such as Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA).

Nuclear requirement:

Any PVNGS employee may be called upon to serve as a member of the Emergency Response Organization (ERO) and will be expected to fulfill their obligation as an ERO member.

Any PVNGS employee may be called upon to support a refueling or short-notice outage. This includes line roles and responsibilities as necessary to execute outage activities.

Major Accountabilities

1) Coordinates and performs physical examinations to ensure compliance with APS procedures and regulatory requirements, OSHA, NRC and Department of Transportation (DOT) and with the APS Medical Monitoring Program.

2) Coordinates with the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) certified laboratory to ensure that drug and alcohol reports are documented and received in accordance with regulatory requirements.

3) Coordinates with the Medical Review Officer, Human Resources, leaders and employees in the adjudication of drug screens results and in the processing of out-of-range specimens in accordance with regulatory guidelines and company procedures.

4) Reviews to ensure required documentation related to case management, drug screening and clinic encounters are completed and maintained in accordance with regulatory requirements and the APS Confidentiality Policy.

5) Set ups and operates a broad range of testing and screening equipment including, but not limited to: cardiograms, audiograms, tonometry, vision, ETS operation or other types of immunoassay screening, and pulmonary function testing. Ensures equipment calibrations are completed as required.

6) Provides care of occupational and non-occupational injuries in accordance with standing orders and standards of care.

7) Coordinates and schedules physicals, drug and alcohol testing.

8) Coordinates with team members in the care of job related and non-job related illnesses and injuries including follow-up care and case management.

Plant/Field Role:

This position requires work to be performed in the field and/or at the work site, due to the nature of work.

Any PVGS employees may be called upon for random Fitness for Duty (FFD) testing during scheduled working hours. Employees, if off-site, must report to FFD at Palo Verde as soon as reasonably practicable, but no more than 120 minutes after being notified. Employees who are onsite when notified will have no more than 60 minutes to report after being notified.
