ProMedica Health System RN / Registered Nurse - Parkway Surgery - PACU - Full Time - Days in Toledo, Ohio
Responsible for the delivery of comprehensive nursing care and the supervision of care delegated to other members of the health care team. Using the nursing process, the RN collaborates with the patient, family, and other members of the team to formulate, coordinate, implement, and evaluate the plan of care based on data collected from knowledge of the biological, physical, spiritual, behavioral, and psychosocial assessment of the patient. The RN accepts responsibility for the complete and accurate documentation of care delivered and responsibility for coordination of care among all disciplines providing service to patients and utilizes appropriate delegation in the delivery of care.
Assess the patient’s current health status through the application of clinical knowledge and skills obtained through education and experience. May interview patients, family members, or others and review existing records. Utilizes and prioritizes the data collected by other health care team members.
Performs a complete physical exam/observation to gather objective data to determine the patient’s needs, alterations, limitations, and assets.
Prioritizes established goals or expected outcomes derived from the nursing process
Identifies nursing interventions as appropriate for goal attainment.
Formulates the nursing plan of care.
Prepares the patient and family for discharge and the continuation of care.
Provides the opportunity to convey interest, support, and an understanding to the patient and establish a rapport based on trust.
Coordinates the activities of the patient, family, significant other and interdisciplinary health care team.
Delegates specific nursing interventions to other members of the nursing team as appropriate.
Supervises unlicensed personnel and directs LPNs on the performance of interventions.
Documents interventions promptly, concisely, and precisely.
Implements the medical plan of care.
Performs a variety of direct care functions and interventions.
Utilizes all available information with regard to age-specific needs – to treat, teach, counsel, and support, consulting with other health care professionals as appropriate.
Demonstrates skill competency and safety in performing the technical procedures and treatments required to meet the nursing care needs of the patient.
Administers medications according to policy. Provides education and instruction related to individualized needs, including identified learning needs.
Determines the outcome of nursing care and the need to alter the plan of care.
Compares the patient outcomes to determine the extent of goal achievement.
Is responsible for ongoing performance improvement activities. Assists with the implementation of identified improvement actions.
Is responsible for continuous professional development and contributes to the development and implementation of department goals.
Maintains regulatory agency requirements and complies with all personnel policies.
Conducts him/herself in a professional manner, including being accountable for meeting customer service standards. Attitude and behavior must be consistent with established mission and values.
Performs other duties as assigned. Education: Graduate of an accredited school/college of nursing.
Skills: Must be able to understand directions, communicate and respond to inquiries; requires effective interpersonal skills. Must be able to move about the practice/department and between workstations. Must be able to demonstrate good judgment in a fast-paced environment. Must be able to retrieve information from the computers.
Years of Experience:
License: Registered Nurse and be currently licensed to practice in the State of Ohio (or Michigan if applicable).
Certification: CPR Certified
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Years of Experience: 1 year experience as an RN
Certification: ACLS and PALS
WORKING CONDITIONS
Personal Protective Equipment: Must be able to tolerate frequent exposure to latex and latex products.
Physical Demands:
Must be able to frequently move, lift or carry light to heavy patients or equipment. Must be able to tolerate possible exposure to hazardous material, blood borne pathogens and body fluids. Must be able to differentiate between colors, occasionally work on heights, and work with tools, manuals, and technical motors. Must be able to move about the practice/department and between workstations. Must be able to demonstrate good judgment in a fast-paced environment. Must be able to frequently move, lift or carry light to heavy patients or equipment. Must be able to retrieve information from the computers.
Surgery:
May involve the physician, patient/family and health care team in collaborative decision making to modify the patient care plan. Serves the following age populations: infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric. Talks with physician, and anesthesia prior to surgery to discuss the needs of the patient, physician and anesthesia. Utilizes nursing process in making nursing care decisions. Demonstrates use of the nursing process as a tool for problem solving. Considers age related need in determining plan of care.
Assess patient status systematically to anticipate and respond to change in clinical condition. Includes age related needs in responding to clinical changes. Performs and documents thorough assessment and initiates appropriate action in response to assessment data. Identifies the patient, surgeon, procedure and site.
Participates in planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care based on defined patient care plan, patient care policies, standards of care, and age related needs. Prepares the operating room and equipment for each case. Responsible for establishing priorities and organizing assignments to provide flexible individualization patient care. Orients patients to the operating room environment and assures someone is with the patient at all times. Assists anesthesia personnel throughout the procedure.
Recognizes and initiates appropriate action in critical situations. Able to summon assistance as necessary. Stays with patient and initiates appropriate interventions as determined by situations. Readily locates and utilizes emergency equipment and supplies. Able to properly assist the physician with the plan of care. Adapts to changes of pace and remains functional in emergencies. Demonstrates improved performance in critical situations with successive experiences.
Demonstrates skill competence in performing nursing procedures. Provides for patient safety in the OR by accurately carrying out nursing procedures. Able to perform work effectively on major/minor cases. Able to circulate, scrub, or basic level assist in the OR as assigned. Maintains mastery in age related competencies.
Contributes to the development of unit policies, procedures, and standards of care. Participates in staff meetings or on committees if asked. Ensures unit policy and procedures and standards are being adhered to. Assists in QA data collection.
Maintains effective interpersonal relationships with other department’s physicians, management, and other staff members. Motivated, takes self-initiative. Communicates effectively both verbally and non-verbally. Acts on suggestions/criticisms positively. Demonstrates sensitivity to the needs of patient/peers. Demonstrates good listening skills. Demonstrates appropriate customer services standards.
Assumes responsibility for maintaining and upgrading own professional development. Self directs continuing related to the operating room/nursing. Begins development of beginning managerial role (ex: wing leading.) Accepts responsibility for achievement of own professional goals and complies with the policies of the ProMedica Health System.
Functions as a direct caregiver on an assigned shift to an assigned caseload of patients in the operating room in conjunction with surgical/medical plan.
