The Business Unit Finance (BUF) team partners with commercial leadership to shape strategy, drive portfolio/pricing decisions, and lead/participate in management processes that supports & enables us to be the fastest growing medical device company in Japan. Our role is to surface the right facts, past learnings, and partner with key stakeholders to drive decisions necessary to deliver market leading results. We strive to work closely with our functional and regional partners to understand the needs & challenges while ensuring that what we implement will drive value for our patients/stakeholders. The Finance Director will oversee overall financial performance of MedTech Japan and provide financial leadership to ensure growth and profitability across the company. The local FP&A team and ERP Project lead will report to this role. Talent development with focus on continuous performance improvement and engagement will be essential.

The role will involve working closely with finance counterparts within the Japan team, as well as across functional and franchise teams including the local/global/regional franchise organizations, marketing, supply chain, and our finance regional office. He/She will represent Finance in various functional boards and have exposure to the Japan MOC.

Key business partners:

  • All franchise leadership members and function senior leaders

  • Regional finance leaders

Financial planning and Reporting:

  • Lead Strategic Planning/3yr Growth Plan financial cycle for the MedTech business

  • Facilitate clear representation of the business’ actual performance, future plans, risks and opportunities.

  • Provide planning inputs including insights from macroeconomics/ Reimbursement / competitor analysis

  • Create clarity on source of growth, innovation pipeline sufficiency and resource needs

  • Drive investment resource allocation in the right direction (Franchise and MedTech)

  • Lead the entire Business Planning cycles by leading the FP&A team and Franchise Controllers with support regional FP&A (COE) team. Influence goal setting for the franchises, including resource recommendations across activity types and businesses.

  • Lead the Planning & Analysis team in this effort and ensure strong collaboration with our regional FP&A team (COE) in Singapore.

  • Overall coordinate, consolidate, and review all franchise data for each budget cycle submissions, adhoc reports/analyses.

  • Partner with regional FP&A (COE) to ensure timely, accurate & appropriate regular reporting and communication to Regional / Local management including monthly sales dashboard, GP commentary, price and volume change analysis, NPI tracking, franchise P&L etc.

  • Collaborate to improve current practices by driving better accuracy, efficiency and simplicity.

Business and Financial Projects and Initiatives:

  • Engage key business partners on company-wide initiatives, including Company Strategic Priorities, to drive growth and profitability.

  • Lead or support key initiatives in Franchises with Franchise Controllers to facilitate effective decision making and to drive actions

  • Support the ERP lead to ensure successful ERP transitions and work with various stakeholders to ensure success of the global financial project (including SigniFi).

  • Provide leadership in some of cross-cluster/market initiatives including cross-cluster finance initiatives.

  • Support appropriate planning and execution of the company rebate programs, sales incentive plans, and other programs to ensure financial compliance and effective resource allocation.

  • Plan and implement educational trainings to the MedTech Japan employees to improve financial acumen and compliance in the organization.

  • Represent BUF and support/lead adhoc projects.

Compliance and Audit:

  • Responsible for ensuring a strong compliant environment and driving this culture across the organization.

  • Provide support to business partners and compliance team to ensure compliance (SOX, HCC, FCPA, Taxation etc.)

  • Support both internal audit (SOX, FCPA etc.) and external audit (PWC, tax etc.)

Talent & Leadership :

  • He/she will be responsible for creating an environment where leadership and talent development are top priorities, maximizing diversity and inclusion, leveraging individual strengths, and engaging in constructive performance conversations.

  • Join Japan cross sector FCC (Finance Controller Council) and lead one of the three pillars to enhance talent development, capability building, and/or engagement of the Japan Finance organization.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS

A minimum of a Bachelor's degree is required, preferably with a major in Accounting or Finance. An MBA, CPA, CMA, and/or other advanced degree(s) or financial certification(s) is preferred. A minimum of 10 years of finance business experience is required.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to inspire, motivate, and empower people

  • Ability to effectively influence and shape senior level business decisions

  • Strong communication and presentation skills both in English and Japanese

  • Extensive talent and team management experience

  • Strong focus on the customer with demonstrated results building partnerships and collaborating at all levels and multiple functions/affiliates.

  • Strong business acumen coupled with strategic mindset

  • Experience leading implementation of successful process improvements.

  • Up to approximately 15% domestic and international travel may be required.
