Job Summary and Qualifications

The Trauma Nurse Lead provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies and procedures of North Suburban Medical Center and Trauma Services. In collaboration with the patient, the patient’s family and other members of the health care team, the trauma nurse lead assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and coordinates treatment plans. Demonstrates strong trauma clinical assessment, nursing intervention, and strong communication/leadership skills. In addition to clinical responsibilities, the Trauma Nurse Lead provides trauma program support as needed by the trauma program director.

Responsibilities include, although are not limited to:

  • Assigned to trauma patients

  • Collaborates with the Emergency Department CNC

  • Responsible for trauma bay readiness

  • Coordinates and triages incoming trauma patients.

  • Reviews/evaluates all activations for triage level appropriateness

  • Evaluates admission consultations

  • Manages care with primary trauma surgeon

  • Responsible for documentation compliance

  • Responds to in-house trauma patients critical needs

  • Facilitates psychosocial support for the nursing staff

  • Assist in training and in-servicing needs

  • Attends daily trauma surgeon sign out at 0700.

  • Attends daily multi-disciplinary rounds in the ICU

  • Identify and report trauma audit filters

  • Functions as clinical liaison for pre-hospital partners

  • Facilitates trauma bay time outs and debriefings in collaboration with primary surgeon

  • In the absence of a trauma activation or trauma program needs, TNL will respond to all other alerts in ED and assist with throughput activities.

  • Participate in duties assigned by the director of trauma services

What qualifications you will need:

  • Current licensure in the State of Colorado as a Registered Nurse, or current active multistate Registered Nurse license.

  • BLS, ACLS, TNCC, PALS, TNCC and/or ATCN Instructor, ENPC preferred.

  • Graduated from an NLN accredited school of nursing.

  • Current BSN or currently enrolled.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in critical care, emergency or surgical nursing.

  • Minimum of 1 year in trauma care.
