Stantec is seeking an exceptionally talented, enthusiastic, and experienced Senior Environmental Consultant with a keen interest in the natural sciences to lead the environmental services team out of our Irving, Texas office.

Your Opportunity

This person is a passionate individual with strong natural resource expertise ready to lead our project teams with wetland delineations, natural resource permitting, threatened and endangered species assessments, wildlife and aquatic surveys, erosion control and construction oversight and other opportunities as needed. The candidate will work closely with project managers, other environmental scientists, and civil engineers to support the development and delivery of environmental studies for projects involving electric transmission lines, natural gas pipelines, wind and solar electric generation facilities, wetland and stream restorations and other projects for private, municipal, state, and federal clients. This position will initially include working in Irving, Texas, and various locations throughout the Gulf States, with future opportunities to work with other Stantec staff around the United States.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership on projects and thought leadership on solutions to environmental challenges for energy and other infrastructure projects

  • Lead our teams that collect and report on tasks that will include, wetland delineations, threatened and endangered species habitat characterizations, land use mapping and vegetation cover classification, and other natural resource-focused surveys.

  • Lead business development and client management through coordination with Stantec’s marketing team, regional sector leadership, and local technical staff to develop winning proposals.

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance Stantec’s market position with clients, approval agencies, and industry professionals as an outstanding service provider.

  • Coordinate, oversee, and prepare permit applications for the US Army Corps of Engineers, US Fish and Wildlife, and various state agencies.

  • Develop proposal strategies and lead/collaborate with a broader proposal team.

  • Partner with our engineer and design teams to deliver successful energy projects.

  • Lead business development initiatives with new and existing clients.

  • Lead the delivery of high-quality service on client projects.

  • Effectively communicate data collection methods and results to varied audiences that include clients, regulators, and the public.

  • Recruit, mentor, and support the professional development of staff.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience providing or managing technical services in a professional services setting.

  • 5 years’ experience in a client facing role.

  • Proven business development and client relationship management experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully lead diverse project teams and manage large complex projects, particularly energy or transportation projects.

  • Experience with local, state, and federal environmental permitting in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Arkansas including experience with Sections 401, 404, and 408 of the Clean Water Act and Section 7/10 of the Endangered Species Act. Experience with permitting in ERCOT, MISO, and SPP is a plus.

  • Demonstrated experience in managing permitting applications and projects from start to finish.

  • An enthusiastic attitude to collaborate with others and be a key part of a team focused on building a regional permitting program.

  • Ability to review project work, quantities, costs, accuracy of specifications, completeness, and constructability.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; including advanced technical writing abilities.

  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously.

  • Ability to perform work accurately in a detail-oriented environment, and meet project deadlines.

  • Ability to prepare clear and concise reports, procedures, correspondence, and other written materials.

  • Demonstrated ability to build and lead teams, and successfully interact with clients, counsel, and stakeholders.

  • Ability to work well independently and with multi-disciplinary teams in a fast-paced environment.

  • Travel locally, regionally, and nationally as required for proposal and project needs.

  • Possess valid US driver’s license and good driving record.

Education and Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Geology, or a related field is required. Graduate degree is preferred.

  • Certification as Professional Wetland Scientist is preferred.
