Position Summary:

Provides advising, admissions and retention services to prospective and existing students through individual and group counseling and workshops. Provides information and guidance on specific degree plans and requirements, academic policy and navigation of the student administrative processes. Offers direction and leadership to staff and students.

Position Key Accountabilities:

Essential Functions

  • Participates in group decision-making and evaluation processes by integrating strategic problem solving techniques with historical data.

  • Develops, coordinates, and delivers information sessions for existing and prospective students.

  • Serves as main point of contact for prospective students and maintains contact; assists with admission and registration processes.

  • Assists with the development, editing, and distribution of recruitment materials.

  • Assists with student activities including new student orientation, commencement, open houses, and receptions.

  • Meets with students in assigned academic programs and provides guidance and counseling with course planning.

  • Stays abreast of all degree plans and requirements including dual degree options and customized MPH degree programs; assists students in the development of individual academic plans to meet educational and professional goals.

  • Monitors students' academic progress; updates student records.

  • Identifies gaps and barriers to successful completion of enrolled program and explores customization options as necessary; coordinates with faculty academic advisors as necessary.

  • Effectively communicates with students and applicants, UTH staff and/or external entities to proactively resolve issues; provides and/or identifies appropriate resource persons to provide support services for students as needs emerge.

  • Stays abreast on and provides counsel to students regarding institutional policies, practices and procedures relating to student admissions and registration processes.

  • Coordinates the advising process with faculty academic advisors, departments, and regional campuses.

  • Serves as a subject matter expert for other staff in the daily processing of student administration activities.

  • Manages Human Resources activities of department in regards to: recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning.

  • Provide support for the perfusion staff.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal skills and the ability to work with various stakeholders.

  • Ability to make general to complex decisions requiring a comprehensive knowledge of a wide range of regulations, policies, procedures and practices.

  • Generally requires use of initiative and independent judgment.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor's Degree in related field with five (5) years of related experience in the areas of student admissions and enrollment required Master's Degree in related field with three (3) years of related experience in the areas of student admissions and enrollment required Student advising required

Minimum Experience:

Years of experience varies based on education level.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
