Lofton Staffing Services Excavator Operator in Texas City, Texas
POSITION OVERVIEW We are currently seeking a Equipment Operator/Metal Sorter to join the Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Department at our Dickinson location. In this role, the Metal Sorter will be responsible for managing the sorting, moving, loading, and unloading of various scrap materials, both manually and using mobile machinery. This full-time, hourly position requires work from Monday to Friday, with potential for overtime based on business needs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations
- Prepares equipment by conducting operator inspections; performing preventive maintenance checks
- Safely loads scrap onto trucks or rail cars as assigned
- Sorts scrap and transfers to correct material stack both with manually and with the use of mobile equipment
- Assist in unloading and loading customers.
- Provides housekeeping on yard by consolidating piles of scrap.
- Assist in performing inventory on material
EXPERIENCE and QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
- Able to execute the essential functions and responsibilities of the job with or without reasonable accommodations
- 1-2 years' experience with mobile equipment (grapple, front loader, and shear)
- Ability to communicate with customers, employees, and business leaders
- Ability to work as a team player in a fast-paced environment
- Great organizational skills, with attention to detail and the ability to multi-task
- Must be a quick learner; willing and able to operate equipment using the grapple attachments
PREFERRED
- Experience operating an excavator
- 1-2 years' experience in recycling environment or manufacturing environment
- Prior knowledge of metal identification is a plus
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent experience
