About the Position: Red River Army Depot (RRAD) is located in northeast Texas, 19 miles west of Texarkana and approximately 170 miles northeast of Dallas. Responsibilities Determine materials that can be used to fabricate parts. Plan and layout work using blueprints, work orders and specifications. Determine and maintain required temperature and uses proper welding sequence. Advise other employees to follow supervisor's instructions and to meet deadlines. Answer workers questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives. Assure that safety housekeeping rules are followed (e.g. equipment capacities, tool usage, safety procedures). Examine and troubleshoot equipment and machinery to determine extent of repairs needed, material and parts required, and estimate the time required to complete repairs. Work with a variety of metals such as cast iron, malleable iron, cast steel forgings, wrought iron, low and high carbon steels, stainless steel, aluminum, copper, brass, bronze, metal lead, zinc metals and armor plate. Current Department of Army Civilian Employees Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan Military Spouses, under Executive Order (E.O.) 13473 Priority Placement Program, DoD Military Spouse Preference (MSP) Eligible Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Industrial Equipment Maintenace Mechanic Leader without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common supervisor duties of explaining the proper tools, equipment, or parts that are required for repairs. I can demonstrate how to interpret guides such as blueprints, sketches, and technical manuals to perform functions of parts or systems; provide quality control review on performed repairs of heavy mobile equipment vehicles; and illustrate troubleshooting analysis to diagnose malfunctions. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading) Ability To Lead or Supervise Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Knowledge of Materials Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Trouble Shooting Education Some Federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct deposit of pay is required.
