Bureau of Land Management Administrative Support Assistant in Taos, New Mexico

Summary This position is located in the Taos Field Office, in Taos, NM. This is a bargaining unit position represented by the National Treasury Employees Union Chapter 340. This position is concurrently open to all U.S. Citizens under Announcement Number BLM-NM-24-1251627-DE-OPM. Responsibilities Serve as an Administrative Support Assistant in any Field, District, or State/Center organization within the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). Perform a wide variety of administrative support functions and specialized duties each requiring a comprehensive working knowledge of special and/or complex subject matter, procedures, or practices. Perform a full range of administrative support functions, as well as standardized and non-standardized clerical assignments such as Customer Service, Property Procurement, Collections, Travel, Timekeeping/Payroll, etc. Serve as a principle point of contact on specific technical aspects or programs related to office administration, resolving non-recurring problems and issues. Provide advice and recommendations to management on improving administrative operations. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the required specialized experience and/or education for the respective grade level in which you are applying: Specialized Experience GS-07: Applicants must have one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-GS-06 grade level in the Federal service (obtained either in the private or public sectors) performing at the following: (1) providing customer service to the public (in person or by phone) in a front-facing position, such as a front desk of a public office; (2) using various automated office programs such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel to prepare forms, reports, correspondence and other standardized and non-standardized clerical assignments; and 3) providing administrative support functions in TWO or more of the following areas: Budget and Finance; Facilities; Fleet; Property; Procurement; Collections; Timekeeping/Payroll; Records; and Mail. TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-06 is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 level. (Must submit your SF-50 that shows Time-in-Grade eligibility and reflects your title, series, and grade. You must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work and/or volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as "varies". Education There is no substitution of education for experience at the grade level(s) of this announcement. Additional Information Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. Any individual who is currently holding, or has held within the previous 52 weeks, a General Schedule position under non-temporary appointment in the competitive or excepted service, must meet time-in-grade requirements (must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent in the Federal service). Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 5 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. Physical Demands: The work is typically sedentary. Some work may require periods of walking, standing, bending, or driving a motor vehicle. The incumbent may frequently lift relatively light boxes, materials, and supplies and/or carry file folders, copied materials, books, and other similar materials. Working Conditions: Work is typically located in an adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated office environment. The work environment may involve everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, mail distribution centers, meeting and training rooms, libraries, or motor vehicles.
