We currently have an opening for a Structural Design Associate position in our Tampa, FL Container Plant within our North American Container (NAC) business. We are looking for a motivated individual who is capable of performing a multitude of functions in a flexible, fast-paced environment. Our workplace requires individuals who understand the needs of the business while maintaining a focus on safety, customer satisfaction, quality and productivity.

The ideal candidate will be a college graduate with a degree in packaging / packaging design. This is considered a developmental position in function. As such, the successful candidate should have a passion for a career in corrugated packaging and packaging design. Having experience or associated class work, that demonstrates knowledge of our industry is preferred.

Successful candidates will provide design solutions and services to the Florida Complex and its’ Commercial Team to help build a competitive advantage in the marketplace. This position influences the company’s ability to provide innovative solutions to our customers faster than the competition, as well as developing strong talent to continue to grow our base of creative resources

The Job You Will Perform:

  • With guidance from your mentor, follow the Design Associate curriculum

  • Provide customers, plants and sales with prototypes to ensure acceptance of solutions

  • Utilize Impact CAD software to develop structural solutions

  • Safely maintain and organize the design lab

  • Manage sample stock inventory, operate CAD table and follow all housekeeping practices

  • Become an effective team member of the Florida Complex Commercial Team

  • Provide design ideas and solutions to commercial organization as well as customers

  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by understanding and practicing safety guidelines at both IP and customer facilities

  • Maximize value to IP and the customer thru efficient use of resources, tools and gained knowledge

  • Develop and create innovative packaging solutions

  • Assist plants in the optimization of fiber utilization thru understanding board characteristics, plant mix, equipment specifications and most importantly, customer needs and expectations

  • Ability to balance expectations of internal/external customers

The Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge You Will Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (Degree in packaging/mechanical engineering preferred)

  • Individual must be competent in using CAD, Project Management and Microsoft Office software.

  • Individual should have good communication and interpersonal skills to ensure effective working relationships

  • Ability to manage customers design needs, cost savings and technical projects

  • Support and assist with new product development
