Must have the following to apply:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- 1 year of experience
- General knowledge about ships and machinery
- Knowledge about gearboxes
- Ability to rig any and all props, shafts, generators, pumps, and engines
- Ability to align pumps to motors
- Ability to remove and reinstall generators
- Ability to take readings on props, shafts, and bearings
- Have basic hand tools
Preferred:
- Shipyard experience is preferred but multiple factors will be taken into consideration.
- 3 years of machining experience (preferred)

Job Description: As an Outside Machinist, you are responsible for the assembly, installation, modification, and repair of various surface ship machinery and systems. You set up, service, repair, align, and test machines that operate on a mechanical and electro-mechanical basis. Skilled with precision measuring tools such as dial calipers, micrometers, and stack height gauges, you perform all machining tasks with exactness. After evaluating procedures, you recommend changes related to the efficiency of setup and production.
You perform major overhauls on and rebuild diesel, gas, and air compressors. You disassemble, reassemble, and test towing winch components, mooring winches, capstans, and anchor windlasses as well as hydraulic and mechanical cranes. Additionally, you remove and reinstall generators. You also perform all types of major alignments on components such as gearboxes and engine shafts.

Days and Hours: Full time.40+ hours per week.The 1st shift typically runs from7:30 AM to 4:00 PMand the 2nd shift from4:30 PM to - 1:00 AM.Evenings and weekends are required when needed.
