Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer
Job Description
Mechanical Design Engineers are responsible for concept creation, mechanical design, and assistance in troubleshooting for custom automation machinery. Once a job has been quoted, the mechanical design engineers take the initial concept and design complete custom machinery. The role involves working with electrical engineers to determine sensors and mounting locations, drawing pneumatic schematics for the machines in 2D, and showing all components in 3D models. The primary tool used will be SolidWorks for creating 3D models. Once the models are completed, the engineer will submit them for detailing, create bills of materials, and review all drawings before releasing parts. During the build and troubleshooting phase, the engineer will record changes and modifications to help the machine perform to specifications and assist factory personnel in troubleshooting.
Responsibilities
Design custom automation machines in 3D using SolidWorks
Design pneumatic schematics in 2D and show component mounting in 3D
Work with electrical and vision controls engineers to show electrical component mounting
Review all drawings of new parts designed prior to releasing for order
Create Bill of Materials for designs and release parts for purchase
Record all changes to own designs on the shop floor during build and troubleshooting
Assist in troubleshooting of own designs and come up with modifications/ideas to increase machine performance
Work with project managers on new concept design for potential jobs
Design mock-up tooling for designs to test before ordering
Essential Skills
2 years of experience using SolidWorks
2 years of experience in the design of automation machinery
Ability to draw and understand pneumatic schematics
Ability to draw and understand engineering 2D blueprints/drawings
1 year of experience using ERP software/making BOMs
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in process improvement
Experience in mechanical design
Experience in machine design
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $85000.00
