WSP USA Assistant Vice President, Geology in Tampa, Florida

This Opportunity

Provides subject matter technical support and project management for a variety of groundwater supply and underground injection projects. Ensures geological-related project elements and processes are conveyed and acted upon with a high level of quality and compliance. Leads water supply hydrogeologic evaluations, water use permitting, well field water quality evaluations, well field compliance evaluations, water supply planning studies, well testing and maintenance activities, and underground injection well permitting, design, and construction projects for disposal, aquifer recharge, and aquifer storage and recovery wells. Maintain relationships with an extensive base of long-term municipal water supply clients. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards.

Your Impact

  • Manage groundwater supply and underground injection projects for municipal water/wastewater utility clients.

  • Manage the preparation of Water Use Permit applications, including strategizing permitting approach, interacting with Water Management District staff, preparation of impact analyses, and use of net benefit analyses for alternative supply projects.

  • Perform technical work and provide technical assistance to staff for development of groundwater models including groundwater flow, transport, and density-dependent flow models for water resource evaluations.

  • Ensure technical reports and presentations explain research, findings, and recommendations to support the goal of the hydrogeologic evaluation.

  • Develop proposals for a variety of hydrogeologic services including permitting assistance, compliance, planning, design, construction, and maintenance/rehabilitation of water supply and injection well systems.

  • Oversee and monitor cross-functional teams in executing project work.

  • Effectively manage project budgets, schedule, staffing, and technical work in accordance with company standards and procedures.

  • Provide verbal and/or written inputs to multi-disciplinary project teams and contribute to providing high level strategic advice to clients.

  • Maintain relationships with existing client base and develop new clients for providing groundwater supply and injection well services including identifying additional business development opportunities.

  • Mentor staff to support their growth and professional development.

  • Collaborate with professionals from a variety of disciplines to provide future ready solutions for clients.

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, or closely related discipline.

  • 10+ years of experience working as a Hydrogeologist.

  • Professional Geologist License in Florida.

  • Highly proficient with analytical geology concepts, research, investigation, technology, measurement tools, software, and techniques.

  • Strong knowledge of relevant regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.

  • Project management experience with mid-level projects including tracking hours and expenses for project work.

  • Works independently and provides guidance and leadership to mid-level to senior level team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.

  • Well-defined experience in Water Use Permitting, groundwater resource planning, groundwater modeling, aquifer performance testing and analysis, and aquifer water quality evaluation.

  • Extensive knowledge of Florida hydrogeology and regulations for development of groundwater supplies and underground injection.

  • Well-defined experience with evaluation of well performance and maintenance/rehabilitation procedures.

  • Experienced with providing critical review for documents and preparing technical deliverables and plans with a high degree of complexity.

  • Strong self-leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with employees at all levels of the organization.

  • Proficiency with office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.

  • Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, and identify the most cost-effective responses that will minimize waste, prevent pollution, and conserve resources.

  • Ability to interact with a wide variety of sources, including project managers, clients, and sector-wide staff.

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • Must be flexible to a variety of schedules to meet business needs and able to prioritize responsibilities and quickly adapt to change in a pressure work environment.

  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree is preferred.

  • Existing client relationships.
