Syracuse University Postdoctoral Researcher - Gravitational-Wave Astronomy and Astrophysics in Syracuse, New York
The Syracuse University Gravitational-Wave Astronomy and Astrophysics Group (https://gravitationalwaves.syracuse.edu) is soliciting applications for a postdoctoral researcher position. The successful candidate will engage primarily in theoretical research, both computational and analytical, to understand the properties of tidal disruption events and other high-energy and time-domain astrophysical phenomena. Experience in one or more of the following areas is desired: hydrodynamics, numerical and analytical fluid modeling, gravitational dynamics, relativity, and radiative transfer. Applicants should have a PhD in astronomy, astrophysics, physics, or a related field. The initial appointment is for one year, with the possibility of renewal for up to three years, depending on the availability of funding and performance. The postdoc's primary responsibility will be astrophysics research, but they will also have the opportunity to advise graduate students. The successful candidate will also be encouraged to work with other faculty in the group at Syracuse, who work on the gravitational-wave and multi-messenger signals of compact object mergers. Qualified candidates should submit their curriculum vitae (including a list of publications), a short description (<= 4 pages) of their research experience and objectives, and the contact information (email and/or phone numbers) of three references. Questions and inquiries can be directed to Eric Coughlin (ecoughli@syr.edu).
