Syracuse University Part-Time Faculty-SWK 626 Sec M702: Persons in Social Contexts Fall 2024 in Syracuse, New York

Falk College seeks a part-time instructor to teach SWK 626 M702 Persons in Social Contexts (3 credits) in the Fall 2024 (08/19/2024-12/10/2024) semester. Course Description: Persons in Social Context focuses on an assessment of behavior of diverse individuals, groups, and social systems. The course applies concepts from the biological, behavioral, and social sciences in identifying and understanding forms and causes of human behavior. Course Overview: Persons in Social Context is a broad-based foundation course which encourages students to understand that human behavior—individual, family, group, or in larger communities—is influenced by a wide array of factors. Sociological theories of institutions and psychological theories of behavior are explored separately and are integrated into bio-psycho-social-spiritual and ecological-systemic models. Persons in Social Context uses biological, psychological, and socio-cultural content to analyze human behavior, development, and the functioning of social systems. Theoretical conceptualization is within a developmental socio-ecological perspective on the reciprocal relationship of persons and social contexts. The course is designed to sharpen the social work student’s capacity to understand and to systematically explain human behavior and social events they will face in human service positions, and to consider the pragmatic, political, and ethical dimensions of these explanations. Class meetsThursdays, 6:00-7:30 PM EST, w/async content management (async opens 1-week before live class Zoom sessions).
