Falk College seeks a part-time instructor to teach MFT 681 M701 Marriage and Family Therapy Ethics and Issues (3 credits) in the Spring 2025 semester. Course Description: Ethical, legal, and professional issues in marriage and family therapy. This course will examine what it means to be an ethical practitioner in the context of Marriage and Family Therapy. This course meets the following SU MFT Student Learning Outcomes: SLO#4 – Students will demonstrate an applied knowledge of MFT legal and ethical guidelines and professional standards. Through readings, lectures, discussions, case studies, experiential assignments and class visitors we will examine attitudes and beliefs, and gain knowledge and skills for ethical practice.
• Examine their personal guiding principles and ideas about “right” and “wrong”
• Explore how personal and professional ethics interact in the practice of MFT
• Become familiar with precedent setting legal decisions that impact MFT practice
• Understand contextual and cultural competence as an essential component of ethical behavior
• Examine issues of professional conduct
• Increase understanding of ethical and legal jargon related to the practice of MFT
• Understand and apply a framework for ethical decision-making
• Gain awareness of ethical considerations in systemic therapy
• Be introduced to the MFT professional and licensing organizations on a national, state, and local level and learn how they impact practice
Class meets Tuesdays, 5:30 PM-7:30 PM EST, with async content management.
