SUNY Upstate Medical University Maintenance Assistant in Syracuse, New York

Job Summary:

This position shall report to the Supervisor of the PM/Handyman Crew (General Mechanic). This position is in the PM/Handyman section of Physical Plant. The Maintenance Assistant assists skilled and semi-skilled trade positions and will perform semi-skilled tasks, maintenance and repairs as needed. Must demonstrate the ability to perform moderate to heavy manual labor; follow written and verbal instructions; possess working knowledge of methods, materials, tools, & equipment used in trades to which assigned; ability to climb ladders and work at heights on scaffolds and platforms; understand written and verbal instructions, operate a motor vehicle, and demonstrate the ability to adhere to safety standards. Must be able to communicate effectively with patients and staff. Shall be responsible for, but not limited to, demonstrate the ability to interact with customers and meet their maintenance expectations; ability to inspect and repair ceilings, walls, floors, doors, electrical items, medical gas alarm stations, plumbing and miscellaneous items. Person must be free from beard and facial hair that may interfere with the fit or seal of a mask respirator at the time of fit testing. Such a mask must be worn in order to comply with State & Federal Safety Health Codes. Reassignment offers are contingent upon satisfactory evaluation from Environmental Health and Safety. Must possess and maintain a valid New York State Drivers License.

Minimum Qualifications:

Two years of experience in maintenance work or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled tradesman or completion of an appropriate two year technical school course required

Work Days:

Schedule based on 40 hour work week. Monday-Friday 7am-3:30pm.
