SUNY Upstate Medical University Laboratory Manager in Syracuse, New York

Job Summary:

Oversee the day to day operation of the core laboratory to include the management of the laboratory, supervision of lab techs and phlebotomists, quality assurance and quality control of the lab instrumentation.

In addition to oversight of the lab, will assist with training new employees, scheduling tests and keeping to strict turn around times to ensure the lab is meeting client goals. Will also handle the lab ordering and perform lot to lot verification for new reagents to ensure result accuracy. This position is a hands on, direct lab position. Pursuant to established and approved protocols of the department of health, the candidate will assist lab techs with processing samples during busy periods, assist with result reporting and answer physician questions about test results.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s Degree and current NYS license and registration as a Clinical Lab Technologist required. At least two years of direct lab experience required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

This position is highly analytic, meaning the incumbent needs a strong background in lab blood work results, understanding critical levels, understanding physician questions and being able to communicate issues/results to anyone inquiring. The position will also need to troubleshoot any quality issues, which is based on experience and being able to be hands on, on the instruments. Knowledge of NYSDOH standards to ensure lab compliance as well as some experience with lab inspections and CLIA requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

Four years of hands-on lab experience with two years of lab manager/supervisor experience preferred.

Monday through Friday daytime hours
