SUNY Upstate Medical University Financial Resource Specialist in Syracuse, New York

Job Summary:

Under the guidance of the Financial Resource Supervisor, the Financial Resource Specialist will assist and evaluate all self-pay patients to determine if they are eligible for coverage through Medicaid, Medicaid Managed Care or any other type of Marketplace program. Must be a Certified Application Counselor, or be eligible to become certified. Responsible to calculate, give estimates and collecting deposits on non-emergent self-pay elective admissions and non medically necessary procedures. Responsible to gather necessary documentation for a Medicaid or Medicaid Managed Care application and assists in completing the application with the patient/family. Verifies Medicaid appointment dates and tracks status of the Medicaid determination. Keeps abreast of patient status such as exhausted benefits to ensure that patients have the necessary coverage to pay for their services. Responsible to keep abreast of all Medicaid regulations.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associates Degree and three years relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience required. Other operational needs: Must be proficient in the use of a computer, able to communicate in an accurate and professional manner, and able to interpret Department of Health regulations. Must be a Certified Application Counselor, or eligible to become certified and obtain certification within one year of appointment. Candidates who do not currently possess CAC must take and pass the next available course offered by the DOH.

Preferred Qualifications:

Business and/or healthcare experience preferred.

Work Days:

Monday through Friday 8 am - 4:30 pm
