BlackRock VP – External Relationship Management, Alternatives Specialists Team (Australia & New Zealand) in Sydney, Australia

About this role

The BlackRock Alternatives Specialists Team (AST) works with BlackRock’s existing and prospective Limited Partner (LP) client base in Australia and New Zealand (Australasia) to build out BlackRock’s private markets business. The team focuses on capital formation, co-investment, and product solutioning, with the team’s primary function defined as providing the regional client base access to key private markets strategies through a solution-oriented approach.

Members of AST have deep knowledge of the BlackRock private markets capabilities and can hold in depth investment conversations with LPs across the key private market segments including Private Equity, Real Estate, Private Credit and Infrastructure. AST works in partnership with the firm’s relationship management team to deliver BlackRock’s private market capabilities often as part of a wider whole portfolio solution.

Reporting to the Head of BlackRock’s Alternatives Specialists team in Australia & New Zealand, the role will be responsible for all facets of delivering BlackRock’s private markets capabilities to the Australasian client base, including: identifying opportunities to raise capital across the key private markets strategies, working with LP’s to raise funds for co-investment opportunities; assisting with the structuring of bespoke solutions for clients; attending conferences; and building out the strategy narrative & pipelines for new fund raises. Key focus will be on the range of private market alternative asset classes including: Infrastructure, Real Estate, Private Credit and Private Equity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner with BlackRock’s Client Business teams, Portfolio Managers and Product Strategists to design and implement a result-orientated sales strategy for clients and prospects in Australia & New Zealand;

  • Build deep external relationships with the private market teams within the Australasian client base, including Super Funds, Insurance and Sovereign Wealth clients;

  • Identify re-up and cross-selling opportunities to broaden BlackRock’s private markets relationships within the existing client base;

  • Alternative private market product development and competitor intelligence, providing coordinated demand assessments for new product launches;

  • Ensure participation in strategically important and commercially viable RFP processes; and

  • Represent the ANZ BlackRock private markets team at various industry conferences, panel discussions, roundtables and other marketing events.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Experience with Alternative private market investments, demonstrating a track record of raising capital from ANZ investors including; Super Funds, Insurance and Sovereign Wealth clients;

  • Fluency across a range of private markets strategies (Infrastructure, Real Estate, Private Credit and Private Equity), including their investment characteristics and how the strategy could fit within a client’s investment program;

  • Clear awareness of key issues within the ANZ alternatives market affecting investors from an investment, service and regulatory perspective;

  • Ability to leverage existing ANZ market networks and client relationships to drive business;

  • Demonstrate a collaborative and cooperative approach;

  • Demonstrate a real passion for the Alternative private markets asset class;

  • Understand the key drivers of success and a working knowledge of key competitors;

  • MBA, CFA, CA/CPA or other professional designation preferred; and

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skillset.
