Position overview:

The Training Manager is accountable for:

  1. The coordination of KBR resources and student administration within the Training Authority - Maritime Warfare (TA-MW) navigation faculty training organisation.

  2. Overseeing course planning and implementation, managing day-to-day operations and maintaining the course schedule in collaboration with TA–MW leadership, KBR Course Officers and other defence support agencies.

  3. Acting as the KBR contract manager onsite, liasing with the client contract manager and co-developing business cases for initiatives, continuous improvement that may be trialed to modernise processes or offerings for TA-MW.

  4. Completing Project Manager duties & requirements including end-of-month processes, work under contract forecasts, managing KBR staff and work routines, supporting professional development, providing pastoral care, and succession planning.

  5. Coordinating planning forums, workshops, impromptu meetings/ stand-ups to manage schedule changes, admin & logistics requirements for operations.

  6. Support defence processes and procedures to ensure training operations are a collaborative effort and efficiently meet defence’s intent.

Qualifications:

  • An approved degree, diploma, or certificate in education and training, industry area or approved equivalent tertiary qualifications.

  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE22).

    Experience:

  • Leading and managing specialist teams as part of a broader training services system and organisation.

  • The Training Manager shall ideally have an operations planning background and experience working within the defence training environment and systems.

  • Relevant broad-based experience in adult learning, VET, or broad matrix competency frameworks (government and/or industry settings).

  • Experience working for prime contractors as a subcontracting partner.

  • Coordinating meetings, planning work packages and interpreting contracted requirements.

    Skills

  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with an ability to listen and acknowledge customer requirements, shaping these in simple and achievable terms.

  • Ability to sell and make a case for the desired solution based on previous project experiences or professional learnings.

  • Communication with empathy, understanding and appropriate assertiveness.

  • Excellent oral and written skills.

  • Technical writing ability utilising contemporary conventions for designing curriculum documentation and learning courseware.

  • Exercise judgement and sound business, educational and operational decisions in an environment of competing demands and potential project risks.

This is a 12 month fixed term client engagement with potential to be extended.
