The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Senior Water Resources Engineer. As a member of KBR’s Water Resources team you will have the opportunity to be involved in a wide variety of challenging projects that expand your skill base and keep you engaged. On any given day you could be building and calibrating a riverine model on one of Australia’s largest river systems or be part of a design team working on a major infrastructure project in Australia or globally.

You will work with a national group of highly regarded industry practitioners who value technical expertise and innovation. You will apply practical on-the-ground problem solving and engineering solutions and work with our clients collaboratively to deliver successful outcomes. You will have the opportunity if desired to lead projects and manage work-winning activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake hydrologic and hydraulic modelling for a wide range of works including multi-disciplinary road and rail infrastructure projects, coastal and riverine flood studies, floodplain management and stormwater management.

  • Work effectively within multi-disciplinary teams to support the delivery of design solutions that meet client and community expectations.

  • Support the delivery of water resources projects nationally.

  • Maintain an interest in technological advances and applying innovation to project delivery.

  • Develop strong relationships with our clients.

  • Produce technical models and reports to a high standard, contributing to KBR’s reputation for the delivery of quality project outputs.

  • Commit to safe and sustainable delivery of our projects.

  • Support and where required lead the technical preparation of Water Resources proposals.

Who are you?

You will have a demonstrated history working on projects with water resources undertakings in an engineering consulting environment. You will be a skilled and passionate technical professional who wants to continue to progress their career. This role is perfect for the ambitious professional seeking opportunities to develop their skills in bid preparation, project management and general management.

You will have the following skills and experience:

  • Graduate or postgraduate qualifications in Civil engineering, Environmental engineering, Environmental science or other relevant discipline.

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Knowledge and understanding of federal, state and local legislation, regulatory frameworks, and policy, and experience applying it to achieve practical outcomes in the field of water resources.

  • Competence in development of hydrology and hydraulic models in line with scope requirements.

  • Ability to integrate design solutions with other disciplines in the transport sector i.e. road design, drainage design, rail design and structural design.

  • Proficiency in the following software packages: TUFLOW, QGIS.

  • Ability to guide more junior staff in the preparation of models and reports.

  • Be a Registered Chartered engineer or be on the pathway to obtaining CPEng.

Other skills and attributes, while not essential, would be beneficial to have:

  • Proficiency in the following Hydrology and Hydraulic software packages: RORB, XP-RAFTS, WBNM, URBS, HEC-RAS.

  • Proficiency in the following GIS/CAD software packages: ArcGIS, MapInfo, 12D, AUTOCAD

  • Experience with software MUSIC essential, or any other stormwater quality modelling tools.

  • Experience with Scripting and Tool Development.

  • Proven ability to analyse, interpret and communicate information and modelling results.

  • Awareness of business development and marketing activities would be highly regarded.

  • Maintain curiosity and interest to continuously improve technical knowledge and skills.

  • Demonstrated expertise in writing high level technical reports, conference papers and presentation of technical material.

  • Experience in preparation of bid budgets, writing proposals and preparation of marketing materials.
