Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a world leader in cloud services, operating large-scale, high-density data centers across the globe. We are expanding our technician teams within the Sydney region and have openings for an Installation Technician trainee. This is an entry level position and a unique opportunity to learn and work in some of the most innovative and fast paced data-centers in the world.

The Infrastructure Delivery team is responsible for the scaling and physical deployment of new data-center infrastructure. As part of that team, an Installation Technician trainee will be primarily tasked with installing cabling and new racks within the data-centers. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, highly motivated individual with a willingness to learn and up skill. The candidate must be able to perform repetitive tasks and adhere to standard processes and best practices. Candidates will be learning and working in a team environment and must be able to communicate and promote cross-team functionality.

This position has a physical component and will require:

• Ability to move and lift computer equipment;

• Able to work from a ladder and EWP (elevated working platform);

• Regularly lift 15kg;

• Wear PPE as required;

• Use hand and power tools;

This is a 6 month trainee position with the opportunity to convert to perm after the program.

Key job responsibilities

• Adhere to security and safety best practices in the data-center;

• Installation and testing of copper and Fiber Optic cabling;

• Basic build and troubleshooting of network devices;

• Creating/attaching labels and barcodes;

• Managing inventory of related materials;

• Adhering to defined escalation processes and standard operating procedures;

• Work in noisy areas with hotter and colder temperatures than standard office environmental conditions;

• Have a current driving license and transportation to commute to different locations within the Sydney region.

About the team

The Infrastructure Delivery team consists of a diverse range of builders from around the globe, ranging from trade backgrounds to networking professionals working together to deliver the necessary physical network infrastructure for cloud computing.

We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:

Sydney, NSW, AUS

Basic Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent

• Able to work 10 hour shifts

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of network devices, network cabling, optic types, and test equipment, such as VFL, power meter, and OTDR.

Familiarity with Command Line Protocols and serial connections

Open Cablers License; with Structured cable and Fiber cable endorsements.
