Job Overview

TE Connectivity’s Product Engineering Teams optimize existing products from information or input provided by marketing, customers, Operation Teams, Development Engineers or other employees. They maintain existing products, processes, and specifications including modifications for new applications consistent with manufacturing techniques and economies. They also initiate and implement programs to continuously improve quality, and cost, while meeting customer requirements and may support and implement product extensions to existing platform products to meet specific customer requirements. They are the key experts in the products they are responsible for at TE.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Sets an Engineering Functional Leader direction and rallies the organization and team around the vision.

  • Modernizes the compounds portfolio to drive technical and competitive advantage.

  • Conceives original ideas for new materials products through effective voice of customer, market knowledge, and technical understanding of competitors.

  • Has a solid understanding of competitor products and IP positions.

  • Identifies and documents common working practices across the global footprint to ensure all elements of compliance are maintained and relevant.

  • Creates a team framework to support PM, Sales, Marketing, and PIC teams with customer inquiries, including product cross references, specifications, drawings, data, and product knowledge.

  • Supports Global Operations with compound and product-related issues, deciding on the disposition of NCR material and suggesting ways of saving NCR compound.

  • Manages raw material shortages globally in close collaboration with Operations, Purchase, PM, Sales, and Quality.

  • Manages raw material issues, obsolescence, continuity of supply, and suggests material alternatives.

  • Builds relationships and chairs working parties to improve material supply and future material development with suppliers.

  • Rationalizes raw materials and compounds, reviews trade-offs to performance, and makes recommendations to drive engineering efficiencies without impacting performance.

  • Acts as the fact holder and recognized authority on legislation impacts affecting raw materials, compounding, and product families.

  • Responsible for product qualification from market definition through production and release.

  • Provides all required engineering documentation, including formulations and compounding parameters.

  • Submits all IP information to legal according to policy and prior to public disclosure.

  • Leads the global team responsible for sustaining life cycle engineering.

  • Sets and manages financial budgets for the function.

  • Defines and cascades standard working practices around part maintenance activities, including raising and maintaining part numbers, ECN, ECR, PCNs, PDM Link, and digital data requirements.

  • Works with operations to maximize compound and product migration opportunities, being the technically respected voice and driving through opportunities.

  • Defines and concludes product migration legacy issues.

What your background should look like:

  • 10+ years materials science, engineering leadership experience in a sustaining environment.

  • Degree in material science.

  • Strong Leadership skills

  • Strong business acumen - and a good understanding of technical complexities.

  • Considerable experience working with the product technology, processes, or market

  • Experience in building and mentoring effective teams.

  • Creative thinker able to provide deliverable input to the development of technical solutions solidly.

  • Ability to understand technically complex materials developments and processes.

  • Experienced Functional Engineering leader with an ability to influence cross functional teams and to build strong relationships both internally and externally.

  • Proactive approach to design for cost, quality, and manufacturability

  • Knowledge of Voice of Customer, Design to Value, Design for Six Sigma, LEAN Manufacturing and LEAN business processes is preferred.

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills

  • Ability to set clear deliverables, communicate, negotiate, and drive results.
