Principal Scientist - Bacteriology Primary Duties      :  The Principal Scientist - Bacteriology will direct and execute scientific research and development in alignment with the strategies agreed upon by the senior Global Immunology leadership team and global project teams. Based on deep scientific experience in microbiology, the Principal Scientist will prepare study plans, perform experiments, analyze data, and compile research reports/slide presentations to meet project objectives. The Principal Scientist will be responsible for exhibiting sustained ingenuity, creativity, and resourcefulness while independently performing critical data analyses and summarizing experimental results into meaningful presentations for internal and external use. The Principal Scientist will be responsible for leading studies, managing projects, and interacting with global project teams in support of meningococcal and pneumococcal vaccine programs, as well as support the concomitant vaccine evaluation of other vaccines within the Client's pipeline. The Principal Scientist will perform a variety of laboratory procedures, including training staff in established methods and techniques, while maintaining GRP and HSE standards and policies.

Responsibilities Breakdown: 35%- Laboratory research/Assay development/Automation A subject matter expert in bacteriology and assay development. Designs platform's experimental plan in support of projects.] Leads the development of novel bacteriologic assays and optimizes existing functional assays to generate decisional datasets and meet project objectives. Strategically guide the scientific direction of a laboratory team  to design and execute experiments that comply with study protocols and maintain scientific norms (contain appropriate positive and negative controls, replicates, standards, etc.) to appropriately achieve goals set forth in study plans. Demonstrate technical proficiency with ability to problem solve in a broad array of experimental protocols. Independently develop and optimize experimental assays to generate decisional datasets and meet project objectives. Support or co-lead with senior staff the development of immunoassays and automation to enable increase assay's precision and consistency across the value chain and efficiencies in clinical testing to provide data faster for critical decisions. Demonstrate high technical proficiency with ability to problem solve in a broad array of experimental studies. Help lead, monitor and maintain facility related aspects of the lab and lab equipment as needed. 35%- Project Involvement Lead teams of peers and other scientists within or across platforms. Present concise scientific- and data-based presentations with appropriate conclusions to project teams at the site and global level. Compose internal and external project reports for review by project leadership. Prepare publications, proposals, reports, patents, and grant applications. Assist senior management with program logistics, including management of project timelines, deliverables, and budgets. 15% - Personal Management Actively take part in the training, management, and professional development of technical staff. Proactively identify personnel morale/training/development issues and discuss them with senior management. Work with upper management on allocation of headcount to meet project objectives. 15%- GCLP and HSE Adhere to HSE policies for personal safety and handling of reagents/biologics/pathogens and display strong knowledge and ability to follow GCLP principles. Ensure project teams compose protocols and documentation of work in regulatory-compliant data repositories. Participate in generating/reviewing SOPs and other required documents.
