We are looking for a skilled and experienced Senior Applied Scientist to join our ranking foundation team. As a Senior Applied Scientist focusing on recommender systems, you will play an important role in contributing to the development and optimization of our online services and offline pipelines within our content ecosystem to achieve product and business growth goals.

Responsibilities

As a senior engineer in the ranking foundation team, you will build our next-generation recommender systems that powers the Feeds experiences for products like Windows and the Edge Browser. You will work with engineers across different parts of the organization to make their services more reliable and performant.

Apart from learning through technical challenges on our team, you will get to contribute to complex systems that power some of the biggest online services on the planet.

  • Building highly scalable, highly available services that are deployed across the world.

  • Collaborating with partner teams that deliver experiences like multimedia search, advertising, enterprise search, to deliver platform-level features across all of them.

  • Design/Re-Design, write and implement services with performance, efficiency, re-usability, and maintainability as core focus.

  • Profiling and Optimize dataflow and Machine Learning pipelines to deliver measurable performance and efficiency improvements.

  • Build essential metrics to monitor and direct code, data and model evolution.

  • Develop systems and toolsets that work across multiple orchestrators, source control, and build systems (ADO and GitHub)

  • Mentor engineers in the team by providing hands-on assistance, best practices, and promoting an inclusive learning environment.

Qualifications

  • BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or related discipline

  • 5+ years of experience writing code (C/C++, C#, Java) for large-scale systems

  • Ability to deal with ambiguity to prioritize issues

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines like Azure DevOps, GitHub Workflow etc.

  • Experience with low level programming, distributed architectures, or real-time systems

  • Experience operating, troubleshooting, and supporting high performance and business critical production systems.
