Philips Quality Optimization Engineer. in Suzhou, China

In this role, you have the opportunity to

This role will be tasked with driving significant cost savings and process improvements through the optimization of inspection, sampling, and destructive testing methodologies. As an IO Engineer, you will lead efforts to investigate, analyze, and enhance inspection processes across our manufacturing sites, focusing on areas with stable processes, low historical failure rates, high scrap costs, and ineffective human visual inspections. This role offers a unique opportunity to foster a culture of quality at the source and reduce reliance on manual inspection throughout the manufacturing process.

You are responsible for

  • Lead and coordinate efforts to optimize inspection, sampling, and destructive testing methodologies across multiple manufacturing sites.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify areas for improvement, prioritize initiatives, and develop action plans to drive cost savings and process efficiencies.

  • Conduct thorough analyses of existing inspection processes, including evaluation of historical failure rates, scrap costs, and effectiveness of human visual inspections.

  • Implement data-driven solutions to streamline inspection processes, reduce cycle time, and minimize work-in-progress (WIP) inventory.

  • Work closely with site resources to implement changes and ensure successful adoption of optimized inspection methodologies.

  • Lead efforts to increase manufacturing capacity by reducing reliance on destructive product testing and improving yields through reduced product handling and potential component mix-ups.

  • Champion a culture of quality at the source, promoting the use of automated inspection technologies and reducing reliance on manual inspection throughout the manufacturing process.

  • Drive continuous improvement efforts to monitor and track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to cost of poor quality (COPQ), non-conformances, scrap, and inventory levels.

You are a part of

  • Directly reports to Head of Quality ISC

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience

  • You’ve acquired 8 plus years in Quality Management, preferably within a manufacturing environment, with at least five (5) years in medical device and/or pharmaceutical industry.

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field; advanced degree preferred

  • Proven experience in process optimization, quality management, or continuous improvement within a manufacturing environment.

  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to analyze complex data sets and identify opportunities for improvement.

  • Experience with statistical analysis and quality tools such as Six Sigma, Design of Experiments (DOE), and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).

  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, inspection methodologies, and quality standards.

  • Familiarity with automation technologies and robotics for inspection and testing applications.

  • Strong commitment to driving results, with a focus on delivering measurable cost savings and process improvements.

  • Travel between 20-30% globally is required. International travel typically required to support strategic and key initiatives and leadership activities.
