Uber Staff Applications Developer in Sunnyvale, California
About the Role
Our team's mission is to deliver a world-class, enterprise-wide ServiceNow platform that empowers Uber's global workforce to work smarter and more efficiently. We focus on enhancing user experiences, streamlining internal processes, and introducing new modules to meet evolving business needs.
We leverage key modules like ITSM, HRSD, WSD, LSD, GRC, BCM, ITOM etc. We are now expanding our scope to include Software Asset Management (SAM) , and are seeking a Staff Application Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and continued enhancement of this new capability, as well as to guide the overall evolution of our ServiceNow ecosystem. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to architect scalable solutions, integrate emerging technologies, and push the boundaries of what ServiceNow can do. Your contributions will directly impact the productivity of thousands of Uber employees worldwide, enabling them to deliver exceptional services to our customers.

What the Candidate Will Do
Lead SAM Implementation
Architect, implement, and manage the new Software Asset Management module.
Define processes for license tracking, compliance, and cost optimization.
Technical Ownership of Existing Modules
Oversee continuous improvements in ITSM, HRSD, WSD, LSD, GRC, and CMDB, ensuring they meet Uber's evolving needs.
Collaborate with cross-functional partners to refine workflows and integrations.
Platform Architecture & Roadmapping
Create and maintain a strategic roadmap for the ServiceNow platform.
Ensure scalable design, data integrity, and seamless integrations with other enterprise systems.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Management
Act as the subject-matter expert for all ServiceNow initiatives, guiding engineers, product owners, and external stakeholders.
Communicate technical concepts, challenges, and solutions effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Mentorship & Team Development
Coach junior and mid-level engineers, championing best practices in coding, testing, and CI/CD.
Encourage a culture of innovation, growth, and continuous learning.
Operational Excellence
Implement robust testing strategies, monitoring, and automated processes to maintain high availability and performance.
Prioritize security, compliance, and user satisfaction throughout the delivery lifecycle.
Basic Qualifications
8+ years of hands-on experience with ServiceNow, including configuring and customizing core modules (e.g., ITSM, CMDB).
Demonstrated expertise in web technologies (JavaScript, HTML, CSS) and REST/SOAP integrations.
Proven track record of designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise-scale ServiceNow solutions, with exposure to SAM Pro or similar software asset management tools.
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills , comfortable working cross-functionally with engineering, product, and business stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
5+ years of direct experience with Software Asset Management (SAM) or Asset Management modules.
Proven track record designing complex system integrations and automations.
Experience in developing platform roadmaps and driving cross-functional initiatives.
Demonstrated success translating business requirements into technical solutions.
Ability to convey complex technical information to varied audiences.
History of collaborating with diverse teams (Engineering, HR, Legal, Finance, etc.).
Adept at diagnosing complex issues, identifying root causes, and proposing innovative solutions.
Familiarity with Agile methodologies and best practices for enterprise-scale deployments.
Track record of guiding, inspiring, and elevating team members' skill sets.

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$203,000 per year - USD$225,500 per year. For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$203,000 per year - USD$225,500 per year. For all US locations, you will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. You will also be eligible for various benefits.
