Uber Software Engineer II in Sunnyvale, California

About the Role

The Kafka team at Uber is responsible for building and maintaining the mission-critical data processing and messaging platform that powers our real-time data streaming and processing needs. This infrastructure supports various Uber business, including rides, deliveries, operations, and more, ensuring reliable, fast, and scalable data highway. We are looking for a software engineer to play a key role in enhancing and optimizing our Kafka capabilities. The ideal candidate will have work experience in distributed systems, stream processing, and scalability. You will get to work on cutting-edge technologies and collaborate with industry experts in fields ranging from distributed systems to data engineering.

What the Candidate Will Need / Bonus Points

---- What the Candidate Will Do ----

  1. Design and implement features of a high-performance realtime-data platform, prioritizing scalability, reliability, and efficiency

  2. Optimize existing streaming infrastructure for efficiency, latency, and freshness.

  3. Build run procedures to keep kafka components running reliability at high performance

  4. Build monitoring system for Kafka components

  5. Provide technical support for platform customers.

---- Basic Qualifications ----

  1. 2+ years of full-time engineering experience

  2. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

  3. Strong understanding of distributed systems and stream processing.

  4. Proficient in programming languages such as Java, or Go.

---- Preferred Qualifications ----

  1. Under the hood experience with Flink, Kafka, Storm, Samza and other Streaming technologies is a strong plus.

  2. Experience with highly available/fault-tolerant distributed systems, large-scale data processing systems, or enterprise/cloud storage systems is also a strong plus.

  3. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues.

  4. Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

For Seattle, WA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$167,000 per year - USD$185,500 per year. For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$167,000 per year - USD$185,500 per year. For all US locations, you will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. You will also be eligible for various benefits.
