Summary:

The Reality Labs Quality team is seeking an experienced Early Field Failure Analysis Engineer to conduct detailed root cause analysis on Device failures.You will be responsible for performing failure analysis on high volume, technically complex consumer products such as Meta Quest virtual reality headsets and Ray Ban Meta smart glasses. You will leverage your debug and diagnostic skills and utilize a wide array of failure analysis techniques to isolate root cause of hardware failures. You will also be communicating your findings as well as recommendations to a highly cross-functional team to influence and drive improvements to the Quality of current and future products.To be successful in this role, you will have a passion for failure analysis, fault isolation, and troubleshooting. You will possess curiosity for understanding failures at a symptom level, and through robust failure analysis techniques, dive deeper towards the root cause. You will be dependable and possess excellent inter-personal and communication skills to thrive in a highly cross-functional environment.

Required Skills:

Early Field Failure Analysis Engineer Responsibilities:

1. Perform engineering level failure analysis of Reality Labs devices

2. Own end-to-end failure analysis process – from failure replication at system level to failure isolation at module and component level

3. Investigate components, assemblies, and manufacturing processes to find the root causes of various product failures

4. Identify and drive closure to hardware design risks, assembly escapes, poor module quality, as well as software/firmware issues affecting product performance and reliability. Generate necessary test scenarios and collect data needed to isolate failure mode.

5. Collaborate with relevant internal (mechanical, electrical, quality, software engineering teams) and external (vendors) stakeholders

6. Provide inputs to the design and process teams to improve design quality and production yield. This can be completed through lessons learned and developmental systems tear down to identify risk factors

7. Participate in the execution of failure analysis for any possible field safety escalations

8. Ability to travel as required

9. Utilize various diagnostic equipment to characterize failures (power supply, oscilloscope, audio tester, thermal camera, microscope).

10. Organize and manage lab space including testing areas, assembly areas and other project workspaces.

11. Manage and report progress of devices under triage.

Minimum Qualifications:

12. Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.

13. BS in Engineering plus 2+ years of experience in failure analysis and/or product engineering

14. Experience debugging hardware failures and identifying root cause in either consumer electronics, aerospace, automotive, or medical devices products

15. Experience using various failure analysis techniques and equipment. Debugging skills at both system, board and component level is critical

16. Experience working autonomously with some guidance

17. Experience with diagnostic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, DMMs, power supplies and other standard lab equipment (microscope, hand soldering tools)

18. Experience with articulating engineering solutions to both technical and nontechnical cross-functional teams.

19. Experience with data analysis and reporting

$102,000/year to $164,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
